:nervous: ok here it goes
1: my friend has windows 2000 professional, and he wants to view his pictures via thumbnail, but whenever we click thumbnail it just shows a symbol, back then he said he used to be able to see the pics through thumbnail, now he has to click on every single pic just to view it.
part of the problem i saw was that the picture was saved as"JPG" and not JPEG, i tired changing the file types but that didnt work. could it be that it is saved as jpg? well i looked at that too and that is the only option when saving it as a JPEG.
Anybody know the solution? please give me any/every possible solution.

2: he has a dvd drive and back then he said he used to pop in DVD's and watch them, now he pops a dvd in and it wont even start, it just goes to a window with 2 folders leading to files that are not acecessible. please give me any/every possible solution.

Here is an example of the first 1 if you guys didnt get it, this is from my puter off course, and you can see the pic through thumbnail, but on his all you can see is that symbol of a picture viewer.

Thanks for the help guys.

For the second problem ...

Go into My Computer, right-click on the DVD drive, and select Properties ...

Select the AutoPlay tab and it should bring up this ...
autoplay3go.jpg

The reason why it's bringing up a folder is because you probably have "Open folder to view files" selected ...

Scroll down to DVD Movie, select Play DVD Video, and click OK ...

.jpg and .jpeg files are almost identical in coding and wouldn't cause any reason why the thumbnails aren't working correctly. If your friend has a lot of pictures in a designated folder, then it's going to take time to load all of the images' thumbnails. It's not that they aren't working, just that they take time to load. I've got a folder of wallpapers that has about 1,000 files in it and it takes about 5 min or so to load all of the thumbnails when I'm not running any other programs.

the problem is it wont load at all, the pictures just have the symbol of what the opening program should be...

i have to try the dvd part still.

& remember this is on windows 2000 professional not XP

thanks again

thanks for the help guys, sadly none of them helped but i did get a discount for installing a HD on the guys puter. :)
the dvd i couldnt find a driver, and the jpeg problem was the software that he installed which i guess overrides all the .jpg/.bmp stuff.
i told him when he gets a new computer, not to install the software that the cam comes with or else he'll have the same problem and that windows XP (he has win 2000 pro) has autodetect feature (plug 'n' play mode).
