How come the G25 is the same price or sometimes more than the G27? And which one could i get for cheapest, and which is better?

2nd topic-
I have the Driving Force Pro GT, and i was wondering if there's a way to have a shifter like the G25/27, where its separate from the wheel.

3rd topic: how to use the search function.

Thrustmaster TH8 RS is a separate shifter for one.

Oh alright. Thank you.

Is there a different one though, or is that the only one? Cause $150 is pretty expensive for that.

You can get the shifter from a G25 or G27 for around $35, possibly less if you look hard enough, but then you'll also need to get a bodnar box for standalone shifters, which will run you another $30.

I don't think there are any H pattern shifters out there for less than $90.

as a newbie
i try to help a fellow newbie

g27 is a replacement to g25
so technically when g27 is out the g25 is phased out
not sold together

but the market stock is available
so you will see them sold together

all in all, g27 should be superior to g25
but after the dust settled, there are one glaring missing item
the g27 lack the sequential gear stick shift system

I dunno whether this is the reason, but that function make alot of people still search out the g25
as with anything, if demand>supply, the price will go up
plus logitech will try to cut price on the g27 to make it more appealing to the mass market

External shifter only works in PC environment and not in console. Thrusmaster is a USB? type soyou can connect directly to pc as a secondary input
while the G25/27 is a d-sub which needs, like Coxis said, a converter to make it usable with the system.

^yup, but you can only use the g27 shifter standalone on the pc. So it won't work in gt5 or dirt 3.

g25 doesn't cost the same as a g27, they stopped producing g25's and they were the better wheel for the most part. They had straight cut gears (which make more noise) but are much more reliable and the motors were better built. It also had a sequential shift mode on the shifter.

g25 cost anywhere from 400-800$ new, 300-500$ used.

g27 cost anywhere from 220-280$ new, 150-250$ used.

A straight cut gears aren't necessarily more reliable than helical cut gears. In fact, the fact that it's helical means that it can last longer. Why, you say? Here's a good explanation (disregard the transmission reference)-

"Most people think that straight cut gears are stronger than helical gears and that’s why their used. While generally race transmissions with straight gears are very strong, its not because of the straight teeth on the gears. What may shock you is that straight cut gears are actually weaker than a same sized helical gear. The reason for this is quite simple: helical gears have more teeth meshing and thus have a greater load bearing surface area." (http://automotivethinker.com/transmission/straight-cut-gears-vs-helical/)

I actually own a G25 although currently it's being stored away to make room for my T500RS. When new the G25 sells for US$350 which is basically the same at the G27 MSRP. I actually bought mine for CDN$225 in 2008.

The only reason anyone would opt for the G25 is because you have to have a stick sequential. Stock (unmodified), the G25 h-gated isn't a good as the G27's. And to me the G25 shifter doesn't quite have the feel of the TH8RS I'm using now.

I do agree that the G25 is known for its reliability. After almost 4 years, mine is still working although not as well as when it was new and nowhere near the level of the T500RS.

Buhannah, you do need to buy Bodnar's adapter if you plan on using a G25/27's shifter as standalone. Please keep in mind that the first cable you linked to is NOT the one you need, as that one is to use the pedals standalone, not the shifter. Buying a G25/27 shifter is possible, I've seen quite a few pop up. Make sure to always check eBay and other more high profile PC sim racing oriented sites.
