Hey y'all. My daily driver had the engine blow up last week and I was looking around for something that'll give me better mpg than my v8 f150. I passed by a car lot and saw this jewel

I've never bought a used vehicle from a dealer. The F150 was purchased from my dad with low mileage and the car that blew up was bought for my wife when she got get license 13 years ago. What are some things I need to look for when buying a used vehicle with 138k on the clock? I tried looking up the KBB for this but can only find the regular versions and I'm not sure if 3950 is a good price. What would be a good starting price for negotiating a deal? I plan on going to test drive it tomorrow and wanna make sure I know what to look for going in.

Also, we have a law in Kentucky where any dealership must provide the previous owners information upon request.

I would check it throughly. It looks to be a poor repair job from the pics. S10 Xtreme models with the factory racing stripes will extend all the way down the tail gate. It also does not have the correct Xtreme rear bumper or rear bumper side caps. The gap between the cabin and bed is quite large as well. You can see the side skirt/step at the cabin/bed area has a large gap too, it's quite flush there from the factory.

I've also never been a 4.3L V6 guy either, it's for sure a balance shaft engine if it is a 2001. On a positive note I've driven a 95 SS and an 01 Xtreme V6, they're not half bad in cruising power. I just wouldn't want to tow heavy loads with it...

Awesome. Thanks. I'll just pass on this then. They told me it hasn't been wrecked or had major work done to it. I would consider that major work.

Also, big V6 midsized trucks don't really get any better mileage than V8 full size trucks anyway.

^^^

Very little difference for the most part...

I'm not saying it's for sure wrecked, just things I noticed off hand as I've had a few S10/Sonoma/Hombre friends over the years. Seeing it first hand and getting underneath it would be the only way to know for sure.

What would I look for underneath it? New bolts to the frame? Bent frame?

Looking at pics on google, the space between the bed and the cab look right to me. Maybe just a different bumper and tailgate?

To add to this it also doesn't have the correct Xtreme wheels either. There's quite a few home built Xtreme's out there since you could put the ground effects package for next to nothing.

Also with regards to heavy loads, I know with the Blazer Xtreme the manual said not to tow anything with it despite having a beefy trailer hitch. I was always told by the guys in the truck club I was in that it was to hold the rear bumper on, I never believed them until I help one of the guys put a rollpan on his.

As for the mileage, I had an 03 Xtreme and typically got 15-17mpg in a combined highway/city environment. The 2.2L S-10's got decent mileage, but they also couldn't get out of their own way, 120hp was way to light on the horsepower.

Bent frame, bent bumper mounting brackets, misaligned or loose items. Wear marks on bolts that hold the bed to the frame, etc.

Perhaps it was me viewing on my phone, and the picture quality is rather low on PC as well. Driver side shot the gap looked quite large compared to passenger side. It looks like the driver side bed skirt isn't aligned right or maybe loose and sagging a bit? Picture from the passenger side looks like the paint was blended poorly, and the front bumper looks poorly paint matched as well. It may be shadows screwing with the image too.

Who takes pictures of a car they want to sell with a cell phone camera from 8 years ago!?!

Totally overlooked the wheels, but correct also. 👍
