Well my friend is about to test drive one and he might go and buy it. The guy wants 2900 firm, has 100k miles and comes with a limited slip but it has fender damage.

I just wanted to know from the Subaru experts if this is a good deal or not. I tried helping him with his decisions but I'm no Subaru expert.

Other than the fender, everything else looks pretty nifty fine 👍

Do you have a pic of the engine?

Tell him to check for symptoms of head gasket failure (milky coolant or brown scum-like material in the coolant overflow tank, major oil leaks or gooey substance where the head and the block meet, etc). No idea whether that's a good price in America but it's a pretty decent price from where I'm standing.

Also make sure the gearbox is tip-top. It may not be a WRX but the 5-speeds still need to be treated with care with strictly no clutch dumps.

The head gasket is the one well documented fault for Subes that have an EJ25 up until about MY07. EJ20s did too but it was a far rarer occurrence.

Alright, thanks for the info.

Seems like a pretty damn good deal to me. My '02 Scooby has 212K miles on it and the only thing I've done is change the oil, filters and general maintenance. Make sure the timing belt has been changed, if it hasn't it will need to be done as soon as possible and if everything is in good working order your friend should have plenty of trouble free miles from it.

My buddy has that exact same car sans blue paint, and he paid 3500.

If it's mechanically sound then it seems like a pretty good deal.
