(May 8, 2003) The GT ASSOCIATION (GT-A) has officially announced that Round 4 of the 2003 AUTOBACS JGTC, "Japan GT Championship Malaysia," scheduled for June 20 and 21 at Sepang International Circuit (S.I.C.) has been cancelled.
In view of the recent outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the region, discussions concerning the race at S.I.C. where held internally by the GT-A during the Round 2 race at Fuji International Speedway, with the official cancellation announcement coming from the Association today.
The organizing body, S.I.C., made its official race cancellation announcement on May 7, followed by the comment, "The Japan GT has been an annual event for S.I.C. and Malaysia. We look forward to organizing the event when it returns next year."
The GT-A is now in the discussion stages regarding whether or not to organize a substitute event, and if so, the schedule, site, etc., the announcement of which will be made at a later date.
