I don't think that's what he is talking about as I think it was Hamiltons mirror that was missing.
Besides, if your lap time is entirely dependent on whether you have a wing mirror or not, your should probably fire your cheif designer. Alright, I can see how it can serve as an aerodynamic aid, but I don't think losing a wing mirror is going to kill your chances of winning.

In Hamilton's case, losing the mirror made no aerodynamic difference whatsoever - it was just the piece of glass that fell out, not the whole construction falling off the car.

F1 cars are probably the only cars where having your mirrors is better for your speed than not having them

BTW, just noticed this bit on LiveTiming:

Utterly boring race.

Let's see... number 1 and number 2 collided on the first turn, Scott Speed's wheel exploded on the straight, the world champion was shown up by a rookie on his own team, We have a 3-4 way battle for the championship currently led by a rookie, the first place driver's car caught fire in the pitts, another first place (I think) car had a snaffoo in the pitts causing him to have to drive a full lap with no wheel nut, it seemed like half the field wrecked or had car failure...

...yea boring race. Utterly, I'd even venture to say.

This part was funny, the Toyota mechanic handing the wheel nut back to them...

It was one of the most exciting F1 races I've ever seen that offered almost no cars passing each other.

These are also the same cars that go faster with their front wing missing at Monza:dunce:.
...until they reach the Lesmos or brake for Parabolica, that is. Then F1 cars are only good for excavating gravel.

Man, I’m surprised they don’t run without front wings then. What were they thinking!?

Yes, less drag = higher top speed, but due to the nature of the front wing I actually wouldn’t be entirely surprised if they had a slower top speed without the front wing.

A slow exit from Parabolica because there is little front downforce so it's hard to get the front to bite, masses of drag from the air hitting the bottom of the car, the rear of the floor scraping against the ground at speed because the front isn’t being pushed down, and hugely increased braking distances because there is little downforce pushing the front tyres down. This would probably cause the top speed to be lower at the end of the front straight at Monza than if they had the front wing.

Not to mention the time that would be lost over the rest of the lap.

Though, one might argue that without a front wing their ability to do that is also comprimised...
