From the American thread now to the German thread...

With the CLK63 AMG Black Series currently one of my all-time favorite German cars, that choice was a pretty easy one. However, I have to say that the competition is VERY TIGHT. I ended up going with the 911, despite being very, very close to the M3 and R32. The 911 is, at least in my opinion, the pinnacle of sports cars globally. Sure, the Corvette is my favorite in this neck of the woods, but I'm a closet 911 freak. I'd have the "basic" Carrera S PDK over a Turbo or GT3, but that's because I'm a simplistic purist at heart.

...Lets see what happens when the competition is this good and the Veyron is in the mix. This could get very interesting very quickly...

Merc C63 AMG and the Opel Insignia. No contest for me, the Merc C63 is a true performance V8 sedan, has the looks and the go, and is quite a step forward for Benz in that category. The Opel Insignia looks great, I was scrolling down the pictures and when the Insignia came up it 🤬 on everything else, and with an AWD turbo V6 option, it will be a stunning car.

Voted for the M3 and GTI.

VW Scirocco that I nominated myself, and Porsche 911 because it's too good a car and too much of a legend not to. That said, I'm surprised that nobody nominated the Cayman, given that it's supposed to be a better car than the 911.

Why do I get the feeling this vote is actually going to be very close because there are that many good cars people won't know which to go for?...

Boring Euro fans, always vote the same cars, or to quote JC
Only 🤬 buy Porsches.
:p
Nah, I'm just kidding with you all, but seriously, I've had it up to here *indicates chin height* with Porsches, they are really beginning to bore me. Don't worry though, next week I'll love them again, my moods swing with cars, but never stray from GM and muscle cars.:dopey:

Funnily enough I was the same for a while, I read Evo magazine and was sick of the 911 walking away with their car of the year prize every single damn year, but I guess more recently I've been so sick of everyone swooning over the GT-R and big AMG Mercs that the 911 seems like the understated choice again. And I can't even remember the last time I heard of a footballer with one :sly:

:banghead:
It was a hard decision to vote on which VW. Had to choose the Scirocco and the R32. Wish I hadn't nominated the R32, if not I would gladly vote for the GTi. :D

I voted for the R32 and the Sl65 because they're performance versions, think how funny it would be to beat a Honda Integra R in an R32

Golf R32 and BMW 123d. hot hatches that changed the way we look at these manufacturers.

Of course I voted for the GTI. My second pick was pretty tough. I'm a big fan of quite a few of the cars up there. But 911 it was.

And I think us VW fans kinda shot ourselves in the foot on this one by nominating three Golfs and a Polo, all of which are sure to steal votes from each other.

RS6 Avant and M5 Touring, got to love the capability of beating Ferraris with the entire family and the dog on board.

I make it two Golfs, a 'Rocco and a Polo. I guess that sort of thing can't be helped really, people have their own ideas of what the "best" car is.

What may have been more sensible is condensing the GTI and R32 into "Golf" prior to the voting stage. The fact that "Golf" would contain both those performance models and a great range of other models would have given it more punch - it'd have 6 votes by now. That said, the Scirocco has six on it's own :sly:

The Scirocco still is little more than a rebodied GTI. Although it would be hard to have put that in the Golf category, being a quite different car.

It is interesting how that turned out. The C class was broken up into performance and regular versions as well, while the 911 range was entered as a single car. Although I seem to recall that the 911s were nominated separately at the beginning of the nominations thread.

Isn't Bugatti a French brand? Or Italian even?

Anyway, I voted for the S-Class, and the Veyron. Two cars that set the standard for everyone else.

The Audi R8 deserves to win this category so bad. The two cars ahead of it are ridiculously inane cars from their respective manufacturers. The Porsche is as boringly perfect as it's ever been, the SL65 is just another silly attempt by Mercedes to outdo themselves by pouring more power into the same car in order to impress little boys. Grow up and chose the car that is actually a remarkable, significant and impressive achievement. They tackled something entirely new for their brand and pulled it off so brilliantly, whereas the Porsche is the same thing that's been selling well for decades and the MB is just so damn pointless.

Vote the R8. It's just the smart thing to do.

I totally agree. I didnt mind the R230 SL65 because it was a freaking fast retractable top, very unique. But now no conv't and it looks silly and still weighs too much. Love the R8, but i would like to see it get more power, though the v10 is coming, i much rather see the diesel V12. Would vote for the R8 if it werent for the M5 touring

+1 from me too. Extreme as the Black Series cars are, they're just a big manufacturer willy-waving contest.

Campaign slogans? We're not electing the next US president here...

There is no question that the R8 is a good car, and it certainly is respectable for the car that it is. However, in order to be the "best car," it has to be better as a car than the competition. You can't award it the win because it was a good effort if the car itself still isn't as good as the 911.

That was a very hard vote. I don't think there will be such a tough choice until the final votes begin.

Oops, I accidently voted for two. I was thinking about it and switched my vote but forgot to unclick the other two. Can it be fixed?

I'd like to vote for the C63 and RS6.

Two-way tie for second... Can the R8 topple the 2006 Best Car winner?

Hard vote... too many repeats from the same manufacturer.

Had to pick:

Mercedes C63 AMG... just because it's sexy... sounds sexy and is a proper hooligan's car.

BMW 123d... two words: aluminum diesel... a 204 hp turbodiesel that weighs just as much (or as little) as a gas engine? Say goodbye to porky-butt diesel jokes... the one big issue I've had with BMW diesel models is gone... goodbye nose-heavy stance... hello fun!

Yeah, it was really awkward to do that. But you know, I did nominate the R32 before you so I thought we all would stick with that. Although I should have nominated the Gold VI since it was going into production. :banghead:

I'm surprised that the SL65 got a lot more votes than the Veyron . But look at it this way:
VAG>Daimler>BMW :D
