Funny story how the pics were obtained actually. According to the Hearld Sun's Carsguide, the pics were found in a tip by a scavenger  .

They had apparently been prepared for use during internal presentations on the coming FPV model range of F6, GT and GT-P and discarded once they had done their job for the executive team.

In a world of paper shredders and fire-bugs......

Carsguide
Whats new
  • Sturdy pull-handles for doors
  • Indicator lights in the rear view mirrors
  • Rear diffuser on FPV cars
  • Slimmer tail-lights
  • Longer rear door (was always to narrow for fleet buyers in particular)
  • Styling crease enhances wedge profile
  • 19" wheels on FPV's
  • Chunky side skirts on FPV's
  • Performance Brembo brakes package
  • Powerful xenon headlights

I like the new look in general. The flared wheel arches blend well with the body and don't look tacked on like the VE's do. Only thing that I'm kind of luke-warm on is the black plastic inserts under the headlights- I wonder how long they'll take to go out of fashion :p . Also, word is that the original BF engines will remain....that V8 is too top-heavy for any performance car :ouch: !

So what do you all think?

You know, I've held relatively tight lipped about these things so far, but the black plastic body panels are getting ridiculous.

Talk about lazy car design, they all look the same expect for different colours and rims. However the only model to have a small change in its body work is the F6 Typhoon, which has a smaller spoiler.

.......well yeah........ what's your point?

The GT and GT-P are the same car, yet the GT-P has a better sound system, brake package and more interior options etc. The Typhoon looks slightly different because it aint a GT varient. Really, you're looking at 2 cars, rather then 3. Same can be said about the Holden HSV range- they all look very similar with only wheel and body kit being the visual changes.

Maybe it's an Aussie thing? :dopey:

Thats like saying the only visual difference between the cars is, everything that isnt part of the standard car.

A different body kit would be a BIG difference, as that, and rims are about the ONLY thing that usualy separates trim levels of a model. these cars do NOT have different body kits. if they did, like the example you gave, there would be no problem. Nobody expects the higher trims to get a different grill, headlights, or other "integral parts". it's still the same model after all.

+1 I don't like those flat black plastic panels either. Paint them the body color and the car would look perfect.

^ The Ford doesn't look ridiculous as most people think, I think its just smack-dab in the same league as the HSV (aka. Pontiac G8 "GXP"). And the FPV looks too much "Volkswageney", but it doesn't matter, it looks mean anyway. :)

As well, I love everything the new Falcon has to offer aesthetically, except for the blacked-out area between the headlights and foglights. But if the standard Falcon's have that removed, and thus look very similar to this, It will be one decent design.

That black plastic is spectacularly ugly. And that huge lower grille makes it look like a bottom-feeder.

Come on, I know you Aussies can do better than that.

Judging on looks, I really dont like it. The current one looks REALLY good and im saying this from a Holden supporter :D But only the frront and rear of the car are really being changed, the body looks a bit like the same.

Redgodzilla, are you in Victoria? or is the carsguide the same for all the states?

It looks like they crossed the Monaro with the Commodore, and I like it! Black-plastic be damned, its interesting to say the least. Assuming that Ford isn't completely, 100% retarded, they will bring them to the US unmolested, without the change to the "Red, White and Bold" design cues.

That being said, is it better than the Commodore?

Thats a resounding "NO." Until Ford offers a cheap, powerful, not to mention well-build OHV V8 that can actually compete with the GM small-block, it doesn't stand a chance in my book.

...Although, a turbocharged I6 will make it interesting in the US. Maybe GM will throw a Turbo V6 together?

The 4.6L and 5.4L Modular can compete with the SBC, and it is certainly built better than you give it credit for. Is it BETTER than the SBC? No. Does it compete with it? Yes. If the F-body would of been around for one more year the Mustang would of finally beaten it. GM got out suspiciously too early I think. And, the Mustang (probably) out sold the Camaro the last generation.

And in my opinion, I prefer the exhaust note of the Modular to the LSx series. And actually to be perfectly honest, I prefer the new 5.7L HEMI exhaust note from the Magnum/Charger over the LSx series. So, give me the Ford Modular over the Chevy LSx anyday, and I don't care if the LSx has more uber powaaah. I want the Modular. I don't hate the LSx series mind you--hell I'm probably still going to put one in my 3rd gen Camaro. *edit* And that's only because I wouldn't be able to stuff the Ford 4.6L/5.4L under the bonnet due to it being 33% wider than the LSx...yes I've seriously thought about it.

And on the subject of Ford AU's I6 turbo setup, can America get that pretty please with sugar on top?

Yeah. Its amazing how forced induction (massively underrated forced induction) does that. Though I will give the '03 Cobra its props.

The Modular weighs more too.[/stir]

I'd imagine that it would be quite a bit harder to put a Modular in a Camaro (any Camaro) than an LS. :sly:

I think the only Modular that would come close to fitting in the Camaro would be the LT5, but good luck finding one of those.

IMO, with the SBC being cheaper, lighter, more powerful, and generally a bit more reliable, it seems like the best choice when it comes to V8 power out there.

...Although, Ford could shock me with the "Hurricane" V8 that they're finally getting around to building...

Ford's new V6 program is going alone well enough where we may not need the turbocharged I6. According to Autoblog not too long ago, the new direct-injection version of the Duratec35 engine Ford is working on will produce in the neighborhood of 300 BHP (similar to GM's DI 3.6). That would be enough to keep most people happy...

I don't think the FPVs look too bad.

There's a couple of things that need a tidy up - like the black plastic and perhaps a smaller opening in the front.

But on the whole they look good. I love the way these are such a new look, yet instantly recognisable as a Falcon. Well done to the designers in that aspect.

Although, at first glance I was surprised at how much these look like HSV's VE Series. Maybe it's just the pumped guards?

New rear light look the business though! And I like the black difuser on the rear.👍

And the F6 Typhoon is a ripper of a car!

They look very very nice, very aggressive looking... too bad it will only sell in Australia. :(

Well lets talk in GTPlanet terms. If you were to get GTPremium tomorrow you would still be "inferno" ;) . I still dont understand what the prob is. They're both GT's. They should look the same!

I like it 👍 . Maybe a design we'll see on the XR series Falcons I'm betting.

Yeah I'm in central Victoria. I've never read a Hearld Sun outside of Victoria, so I couldn't tell ya

Chances are you will get it in the US. Ford Australia are making it "left hand drive friendly" much like the VE.

The V8 engined FPVs have never been fast. I've never driven one, yet every car mag that has flogged one says the exact same thing- just too top-heavy. The turbo I6 however is more then a match for even the Holden 8's. In a straight line it's usually one of the quickest if not THE quickest car agaisnt it's competitors.

How do you "accidentally" reveal a car... ? :odd:

Ok I'll stop now :)

I was reading futher that the base Falcon was due to be unveiled 7 months from now. History has shown the FPV's usually come even later, so it's a very, very big deal

The talk is here in Michigan that the Falcon chassis will be the basis for Ford's entire RWD program, much like how GM is doing their business with the Zeta chassis. That would mean the Falcon, oddly enough, would underpin the Mustang once more (just like 1964!), and would likely spin-off sedans and coupes for Lincoln and possibly Mercury as well.

As for the power choice, I understand what you mean. The iron 5.4L V8 is a pig when it comes to size and weight, especially when its compared to the small-block from GM. We'd be more likely to see a V6 in our models here in the US, given that straight sixes are usually meant for BMWs these days. Ford would likely use the 3.5L V6 from the Taurus sedan, however, the addition of direct injection has boosted the power to 300 BHP (223 Kw), and the planned turbo engine should make somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 BHP (298 Kw).

...That should be enough...

For all intents and purposes, they look exactly the same. If didn't know any better, I'd seriously believe they were the same car but with different panels.

The Aussies finally did what the Japanese were trying to do in the US market for a short period of the 1980s...make exactly the same car.

I think the Chinese could take a lesson from that book.

But I do like the looks of it, even though it would do better with less plastic.
