One word- mean. Mitsubishi usually... means... business when their mean little Lancer rips up rally courses. This may be the meanest Lancer of them all with its sharp and muscular appearance. The machine, while mean, looks clean. I can imagine these Lancers getting all done up in RalliArt colors like some of the Lancer WRC cars.

Out of 100% approval, my approval will be pretty high because I can't really remember a Lancer I didn't like (except for maybe the first two Lancers). So I'm presenting it with 95% approval.

Nice, they stayed quite true to the concepts we saw a while back, I'm loving that pissed off look too.
I wonder why they don't off AWD in the base models, they'd make great little cars with AWD.

Let me be the first to say...

That's ugly.

It's horrendous.

The front looks like an Elephant sat on it and the back looks like an Alfa Romeo clenching it's butt cheeks. No doubt it'll perform, but my god it's hideous.

Then again, I was one of few to like the new Impreza looks, but please don't mistake me for a fanboy.

Hmmm. I'm undecided on whether I like it or not.

My opinion is that its ugly as hell. Why do they have to ruin a awesome car. I have loved all of the lancers and now this one will ruin it.👎 :grumpy: 👎 :grumpy:

Miss.

Without the front spoiler, the car looks reeally big and bland. With them, it looks as though a huge chunck is missing out of the front. I like the outgoing model much better. It seem to match Mitsu's current styling lately, that of second-rate cars. I'd say it is the store brand of automobiles.

When the first picture loaded, I was actually very disappointed. I was looking for something very close to the Concept X. I'm now converted to being an STi fan.

I was looking for this. That would've killed the competition.

The base Lancer isn't much of a looker either. You seem to be confusing it with the EVO X which will no doubt look pretty similar to the concept.

You (everyone complaining about the styling) do realise that the car shown in that picture is the Evolution concept, right? And that the car this thread is about is the base Lancer, yes?

Those tail lights are ass. Kill, kill, kill!

Sorry guys.:guilty: Guess I must not have been thinking straight. Oh well, that comment was a bit of a lifesaver. I'm glad that is not the Evo.

I still can't say I like the car. I always did think the base Lancer looked a little cheap, so I am less disappointed.

I give it an 80% out of 100%. It looks better than any other generation--I'm speaking specifically to the trims under the EVO. The new EVO is hot, I like it. But the taillights will take a bit to get used to. I'll have to see one in person to make my final judgement.

Okay, lets compare the current car to the new one for just a minute:

...Now it isn't that bad. After all, they have managed to screw with the Lancer a bit too much over the years anyway. It does look quite a bit like an Alfa, and thats a good thing. Mitsubishi is going to need to have some balls to be able to sell cars in this country, and having bland-looking "everyman" econoboxes isn't going to get you anywhere. Thumbs-up for going with the look of the Evo X concept, even with the standard model.

Good news is that 150 BHP is at the ready, and that should be plenty for a regular car. Lets hope they bring back the 170-ish BHP MIVEC for a new Ralliart version, as it was quite a value, and drove rather well. Otherwise Mitsubishi could get smart, listen to me, and build a light-turbo version of the car to go against the Civic Si, Cobalt SS, and GTI.

And, listen to me, and throw in AWD to go against the WRX and R32. :p

Agreed, and they could also give the base Lancers awd, they would be great competition for the Impreza 2.5's.

wow that front end looks nice. the rear is ok. looks pretty good in blue but the other pics in red, the tail lights look kinda funny... maby it's just me. the evo has gotten pretty darn big though now hasnt it. 180 inches, thats BMW 3 series territory. Allot bigger than most compacts out there today, well except the civic sedan.

This is exactly what I expected, I.m just happy to see a change from the current style.

It amazes me how well a job they were able to **** up a perfectly fine concept. Here's to hoping the actual Evo will be decent. :grumpy:

I'm also undecided. I .... kind of don't like it, but the design is so dynamic, and in your face. I gotta see this one in person.

the evo [erm, you mean Lancer? –Sage] has gotten pretty darn big though now hasnt it.
Year, seriously. I looked at the weight of that thing and uttered a rather naughty expletive.

No, it isn't bad, it looks good but for a moment, I thought that was the new EVO :scared:

Any news on the '08 EVO yet?

Mitsubishi has really transformed the Lancer into something else havn't they?

It's Alfa-esque looks will come as an advantage though, no doubt, but convincing the U.S that it is no longer the bland & tried product may be tough...

I'm sure the EVO version will be suitably 'butch' looking. The look of the other models is irrelevant anyway - nobody actually buys them.

YSSMAN

IMO, it's very hard to adapt an Alfa design and make it, good. My example, Subaru Tribeca. Yes, the grill isn't the only problem, it is however a big one.

And what they've done is badly impersonate with an Alfa 159 rear. Just 2 too many creases and suddenly it's crap (IMO)
