We haven't seen the 2009 BMW 7 Series, but we know people who have a good idea of what it's going to look like. They put together these renderings based on their insider knowledge to give us a peek at what we can expect from BMW's next flagship sedan.

Clear from these pictures, the radical design of the current model has been toned down for the 2009 7 Series. The 2006 7 Series already softened some of the harder edges that offended so many BMW loyalists, but this design will go even further.

The most obvious difference between this conceptual 2009 7 Series and the current version is the shape of the rear end. Forget the old Bangle Butt, as it was so callously called, this 7's tail section will have a much smoother design that better integrates into the car's overall lines. Although the face of the '09 7 Series does not look dramatically different from that of the '06 model, it appears that BMW will likely replace the current semi-rectangular headlamps with a more elliptically shaped set. The taillamps also appear to have been altered in keeping with the vehicle's slimmed-down rear end.

As conservative as the '09 7 Series appears on the surface, this next-generation version of the vehicle is expected to house the sort of progressive features beneath its skin that BMW loves. The cabin will likely feature a wider range of electronic systems with a more user-friendly layout than that of the 2006 7 Series. The clunky iDrive system will stay, but it will get yet another revision for better usability.

Expect a greater use of active safety features, incorporating everything from cameras to radars in the name of accident avoidance, as well.

Since BMW has officially partnered with DaimlerChrysler and GM on development of a hybrid drive system, don't be surprised to see a gas-electric version of this 7 Series added to the lineup.

Look for both a short- and long-wheelbase version of the 2009 BMW 7 Series toward the end of the 2008 calendar year.

BMW seems to be backpedaling on Bangle-ized versions of it's cars as quickly as they can!

Wow, what happened to Chris Bangle now...

it actually looks good! Well, at least at the front. Then again I find the current 7-series to be attractive from the front (but not the rear) just like this one.

Groooosssssssss! It's Bavarian Audi Works!

Poverty
Id take the new audi a8 over this anyday and everyday.

+1 Audi > BMW

I'm already sick of seeing your anti-German comments. "schiessland" in the VW thread and now this? Where you from kid so I can personally insult your country. Don't drop out of school so you can learn some manners and respect because your parents obviously didn't teach you any.

This is so much better. 👍

Hey that's in Michigan and I've been there

But honestly I don't like that car, the back looks funny to me.

Wow, what's your major malfunction? All I said is it looks like an Audi. In the VW thread, I was insulting VW, not German. That Passat doesn't look german, it looks like the s-word (from the rear, as implied), in my opinion.

Got a problem with my rationally just opinions? Call your lawyers.

Why are car manufacturers making all of their cars really looking alike, fair enough they could make their cars with key characteristics so it is easily identified as say a BMW but that front end is strikingly similar to the 6 series. It annoys me, no originality to the 7 series at all.

Its called corporate styling. The general public is scared of things that are different and unfamiliar, so manufacturers want to make all of their cars look similar so their cars appear to be familiar.

:) . For all whom don't like this model, there's still hope...

the Interceptor

Well one could have read it that he called germany ****land because he was using german and germany is called deutschland so he replaced the deutsch with ****.

Just my take on things...

Gee, how about a positive comment for once: I absofreakin'lutely love it! It's gorgeous! Seriously, no more work need be done, just put that into production exactly as is and call it a day.

On a side note; what's with all the negativity on this forum lately? It seems like everytime I come here all I hear is b!tching and whining about the cars being discussed. Now, I respect everyone's right to an opinion, and expressing your opinions is fine with me, but if you're going to pick a car apart, at least try to find SOMETHING you like about it, or find another car on this forum that you like and post something positive about it, and if you can't find anything positive to say about any of the cars, then what are still doing here? Acting positive at least HALF the time is a small thing you could do that would contibute tremendously to this being a much nicer place to spend time. Sorry if this has sounded a little harsh, but it needed to be said, as all the negativity around here is turning this into a decidedly un-fun forum. So please, everybody, let's try to bring the mood up around here.

These photos are nothing but "maybe it'll look like this" renderings.

It looks great, and is quite possibly the sexiest 7 I've ever seen, but it's likely that it'll look significantly different when it's actually built.

The forums are for discussion of opinion, and sadly the majority of people seem to dislike Bangle's designs, and so the board will seem negative.

This is ever mor elikely to happen as designs become ever more extreme and wild.

The rear of this thing is kind of like an Aston Martin, especially with the chrome accent and the taillights. The front has that late 1990s style to it, except that the headlights coule be better. I am a BMW fan, and I don't see too many of Bangle's designs as horrid. Surely, this one isn't horrid to me. It is a bit Aston Martin-ish with the taillights at the rear, but this isn't as bad as you may think it is.

That's just me, though. You're a human being, so you're free to have your own ideas and share them with others much like I've done.

I think the looks do a good job of disguising the hugeness.

Not quite as nice as the A8, but WAY better than the new S Class, which looks like the morbidly obese lovechild of an RX8 and a Maybach. :yuck: 👎

Not too keen on this design - will take time to get use to it.

Meh, nothing will ever get as good as the E38.
