Ok, I'm just venting my frustration here.

I decided to pick this game back up today after about a 7 month hiatus. I started out running around the String in several cars, so i could get used to it again.

Well, tonight, I decided to try an endurance race. I didn't really plan on finishing it but i wanted to get an idea of how hard it would be.

Attempt#1: I use my Camaro Race car completely stock. Well the Oreca Viper just blows me away and laps me by lap 20 i believe. So that's no good.

Attempt#2: I get my C5R which i had used for the first time today on the string and got my 4th best time at that track. coming only behind my 2 attempts with my only F1 car (687/s), and an attempt with my GT-ONE road car(about 1000hp). Now, i'm not good at this game compared to probably half the users of this site, but i still have fun, and i can manage to win some Pro series event's :lol:

Anyways, back on topic. I decide to put the N/A tune #1 on the car to boost it to 718hp. And leave everything else stock. And slap on some superslicks. So the race starts and luckily no viper. But then the Esperante just pulls out ahead, i get worried. But i keep telling myself that he pits every 5 laps. well come lap 5 and he doesn't...uh oh.... ok, maybe lap 6....yes, he pits. Now this red car that i dont' recognize takes his place and continues to pull ahead of me, but slightly slower than the Esperante. Ok, well, let's see when he pits...... Well, he keeps on pulling ahead. At around lap 20 my best lap was a 1'24.289. but i was probably averaging a high 1'25 or low 1'26. Well, i realize that at lap 15 when this damn red car hasn't pitted yet that i have no chance at winning. So now i decide just to keep racing until he pits, to A. see how far he's going to go and B. so i can find out what the heck this guys driving! Well, the laps keep ticking and around 20 my fronts are a nice yellow color. my lap times are not terribly consistent but i can still pull 1'25's. so if i concentrate i can still do okay with front tires on the downhill slide.
Well, at lap 25(of 90 :scared: ) my front tires start showing an orange tinge on the indicator. so i decide to give it one more lap before i pit, hoping this little red rocket will pit also. but, as we pass the pit entrance on lap 25 he has just passed me and passes right by pit lane. :indiff: well, dang. so i pit, and now it's my mission to see just how long this guy can go on one set of tires, and continue to increase his lead. Well we go right on by lap 30 and i've logged a 1'23.695 to beat my 1'24 time. well at lap 30 i also notice the CLK Touring car pitted and i think that was his first time in the pits also. Well, it's getting late, past 12, and i'm getting more determined and frustrated at the same time.
I'm running 4th, and only because the Esperante and the Storm pit every 5 and 6 laps respectively. So pass lap 35 and still this red dang car has not pitted. well, finally at my lap 36, the Vertigo race car pits!! so he went 37 laps without pitting and gaining on everyone the whole time!
I realize this may sound like a n00b story to some of you (but of course a am a GT3 n00b to most of you fanatics! :lol: ), but dang! I didn't want to just whip out my GT-ONE road car, because demolishing every race does get boring. I want to actually test myself, and obviously i can not beat this race without using a LeMans class car. The only other car i can rember that i noticed going so light on tires was the 787B, but i think even it pitted in a 15 lap race. but 37 laps!!! holy cow!!

is this only news to me? has anyone else seen an AI car go a ridiculously long time without pitting?????
 
Hmm, that is long. And if you drive 1:25 with C5R you're not pushing hard enough. Perhaps you should try stickier tyres and pit a bit more? It is silly to blow the competition away, but still, tight races are hard, because the competition is never the same.
 
in the polyphony digital cup (20 lap races)i was racing against an elise 190 and it never pitted the entire series
 
Actually, it was well noted in this thread : Neon_Duke's Write-up.

A quick search for "Laguna Vertigo" in there pulled it up from the depths. It helped that I knew what I was looking for, so no sweat on the search.

Yes, the Vertigo gets unusual mileage out of his tires.

you nearly need some search tips, searching for things on GTP is very difficults procedure :scared:

does this work if you drive the vertigo? or is this a "ai-boost"?
 
Honestly, I don't recall anyone ever trying it. I suppose that I could run a replay, MK out the AI vertigo, and then load it into my garage and run it in the enduro. It'd be interesting to see how it works.

But then again, it's not likely I'll pick up GT3 for a while, and even then it'll be nostalgia.

i think i'll try it. i have to wait for march 9th to get GT4 (european release). so i have some time for driving gt3. does the ai use hard tires? or the "stock" medium ones?
 
The Vertigo Race Car doesn't weigh very much, so it doesn't wear its tyres too quickly. It also doesn't have a lot of power, comparatively, so it doesn't wear its drive tyres quickly either.
 
ah, thanks for link, that is a great write up. I've never even ventured in to that forum. guess i will now.

I realize my laptimes were not fast, but i was using SuperSlicks (T1s?). and like i said, i'm not an expert driver. I've had this game for over 3 years, and am only 53.6% done!! :lol: I had to get my buddy to do some of the License tests for me because i suck that bad. :guilty:

I want to try it again, i guess i'll have to start it without the vertigo in the running and use grippier tires, as NeonDuke did.

Do you adjust downforce 87 Chevy our leave it at default settings? You will get a heap more corner speed if you move the downforce sliders all the way to the right.
(At test track move all the way to the left).

oh.....I didn't even mess with any settings of the car. I went back today (before i picked up GT4) and started using other cars to get good lap times. I started running 1'21's with my trusty old Altezza LM, to my surprise. But it' eats tires alive.
I was running 1'17's with my GT-ONE but that's just cheating. i want to use a normal race car. but, with GT4, it might be a while before i do anything with GT3 again.
 
I entered this race with a Vertigo, bought T2 tires and gave it new oil for 440 bhp.
The AI featured another Vertigo, a Team Oreca Viper, Corvette C5R, CLK Touring Car and the GT40 race car.
I did my normal pre race ajdusments to the default settings and started the race from 6th.
The T2 tires took 3 laps to go green at the front and 6 laps to go green at the rear.
I moved from third to second place on lap 6 when the C5R pitted at the end of lap 6.
The Viper was in first place until it pits at end lap 8. I take the lead and maintain for the rest of the race.
My best lap was a 1'18.260 at lap 68 on green tires after my second pit stop.
I had to pit on lap 31 and lap 62 for new tires.
The Viper was running mid to high 1'19.xxx laps and his 8 pit stops allowed me to lap him.
The Vertigo AI pitted twice at approx lap 37 and lap 74.
I lapped him 3 times so I can approximate that his laps were (3 x 80 seconds divided by 90) about 2.6 to 3 seconds slower than me giving him average laps of about 1'23.000.
The oil light came on at about lap 87 at 300 km driven. Total distance driven according to the car was 318.6 km.
Results.
1st. Vertigo Race car. 121'09.809
2nd. Oreca Viper + 1 lap
3rd. Vertigo Race car + 3 laps
4th. Corvette C5R + 3 laps
5th. CLK Touring Car + 5 laps
6th. GT40 Race car + 6 laps

The GT40 spun out on the corkscrew frequently.
 
I call GT40 and CLK "spinners" on Laguna Seca, because they tend to spin out very often in corkscew and in last corner. In the group there is also a JGTC car - Xanavi Nismo (I think), which spun several times towards the end of his stint in corkscrew and Skyline (R32 I think), which spun in Skyline races on Grand Valley Speedway Reversed in that tight left hairpin towards the end of the lap and in right corner just before it. It's really great to watch them trying to catch the car :).
