Why am i not surprised it looks like a bloated TL?

Oh well, i guess i wouldn't mind owning one.

But "four-door sports coupe"? Looks like a station wagon to me.

What are the point to these things? It's like a less practical SUV with horrid rear head room.

As much as I dislike this... thing, I do appreciate Acura's persistence in producing cars that also function as novelty bottle openers.

Stupid idea, yeah, but the design is pretty much badass. Too bad the TL didn't turn out that clean and sweet. I'm glad Acura has the balls to take concept cars and sell them.

I can't decide if I like this or the Infiniti EX35 better.

Actually I'd probably take a CTS Sportwagon over either.

I dont' know what's funner, the coke bottle opener pic, or the fact that the Eagle is making a Comeback.

Further proof that in the year 3000, automobile windows will only be as big as our eyes are tall.

When it comes to impractical SUVs, I don't think anything will every touch this thing on the coolness scale:

pic broken?

Yes, I hate BMW's bad cars for being trendsetters, but at least they've caused the IS200 with their 3-series. That's something, right?

I hate the new Acura's corporate face. I DO however like this thing's rear end. But, I find the vehicle pointless.

Despite what I think about the practicality, or usefulness of the vehicle, I like the design. I too was initially turned off by Acura's new beak/grill designs, but it's starting to grow on me lately.

Also, the rear of the ZDX looks superb.

Yucck!!! What is that thing any good for, its ugly not practical at all, and I'm sure very over priced.

Where there any others of these vehicles before the X6? Because as somebody said on an Autoline interview I watched: by opening a new niche in the market, a company is essentially doing the market research for their competitors. And is it just me or has the X6 not exactly taken off in sales? I've seen all of one on the roads, and it's kinda sad that any company would be so bent on beating BMW that they'd follow them down a dead end street.

As for the corporate grille, I think it looks great on the TSX and MDX. It really isn't bad looking at all when used in moderation. It's just with the TL and this thing that it really flops.

Even though it’s pretty pointless, it is a fantastic looking thing from the rear. I don’t understand why people have been so hard on new car designs lately.
I love it when manufactures dare to be different… away from that boring 90’s design trend.

How on earth do these guys come up with even more hideous designs than the previous one? is there no limit for ugliness?

I think that the problem is that a lot of new designs just aren't photogenic. A lot of cars have something to them that just doesn't work in pictures, yet is stunning in the sheet metal. I can think of a few cars off the top of my head right now that I thought were ugly until I saw one on the roads, and now I think they are excellent looking cars.

Infiniti did it way back when they came out with the terribly impractical and overly sporting FX. Mazda has done it with the CX7. A short while ago Infiniti took the FX and made it smaller and a little more car-like, calling it the EX. These cars are all basically in the same class, and BMW was actually late to the party. Acura has a very sporty image, and I think the rakish roof line works well, while being just as impractical for luggage and people space as the BMW, and especially the FX. The RDX and this ZDX will be working against the same group of competitors, the same bunch of crossover things that only sell because they look awesome.

If they had taken this general design, moved the greenhouse back a bit further, shortened the sides a bit, made it wider, lower, with bulgier wheel arches, stuck it on some 19s with low profile tires, and put a big engine in there, I suppose they'd probably have called it the NSX. But no. They made this instead, because this will "sell".

The problem with this is it sacrifices functionality for looks, but still looks ugly as sin. I don't know why they slope down the roofs so steeply. Less cargo space and headroom? Great idea!

Pontiac did it in 2001. AMC did it in 1980. BMW and Acura seem to think that it needs to look like the former (of course, a lot of BMWs look like the former) but fill the same niche as the latter.

I think this car deserves a "WRRRRRRYYYYYYY" in almost every way, but by days end, I don't hate it. In fact, I like it better than the X6.

Problem is that Honda has that Accord crossover coming. I like that even more.

Me too, pretty much. Maybe I'd find it a little bit amusing as a concept car. Of course, I'd never buy a car like this, but that doesn't mean anything. Plenty of the popular cars are something I'd never want to own.

I think Philly makes good point as well. So many cars these days, I like much better in person. I still am disgusted by the "dip" TL took in redesign, but the actual car is no where near as ugly as the photos I've seen suggest.

I don't think so. I really like the new TSX and MDX. A lot.

Yeah, The SUVs aren't that bad. I quite like the Pilot as well. TSX is a tough call, its just the grille that pushes me away.

I don't mind this ZDX thing. It's certainly a hell of a lot better to look at than the X6 is because it looks like it's actually been designed that way rather than just getting a really fat bloke to sit on the roof of an X5 for a few days.

Which were the Pontiac and GMCs mentioned on the previous page that came up with the sporty coupe SUV thing? The only one like that that I was aware of was that Toyota concept that you could drive in GT4, the name of which escapes me. Ah no wait - the RSC:

That thing makes some sense because it looks like it should be able to handle more than just some potholes on a bad road. Definitely needs something done to get some suspension travel though.

Funny how when someone comes up with something truly original it becomes the butt of jokes. no pun intended.

The ZDX, honestly, looks fairly well-executed when compared with other cross-overs. Mind you, that could be just because we're slowly being forced to like them. Also, the practicality of such designs is still in question.
