Welcome to the 3rd annual Gran Turismo Nurburgring 24Hour race hosted this year by GTPlanet. It is that time of year again and although no longer under the banner of Wurks.ca, this year’s event promises to be as strong as ever with 7 confirmed teams having contested the N24 Car Selection Series. This is a truly global series with entrances from all over the world.

We are still looking to sign up more teams for an entry list of at least 12 cars so it’s not too late to get involved if you think you and your team has what it takes to triumph over this grueling event.

The event will be run on Gran Turismo 6 and as such may result in revisions to the following information. This will be done as and when possible and will be mentioned in the thread, however it is the responsibility of the teams to keep abreast of these changes and respond accordingly.

Follow the series!

This is not an official GTP run series, but the name has been allowed to be used. Jordan and the GTP team have nothing to do with the running of this series and any issues should be run by @memto89 .

Team Octane Racing from Sweden hopes for a chance to improve on our last race at 2nd place!

Mento, love the logo.

Lavendel, hi mate long time no see. Delighted to hear you plan to be back for more February Madness at the Ring. Meantime please check out the N24 Car Selection Series thread started by TDZ Dave a week ago. This series runs over 5 races, starts mid September and is a Pre requisite for N24 competitors.

Details are being added regularly but it's 90% complete and I believe Dave has been keen to connect with you guys as we want you back :)

Yo Gadget!

I've tried to find the thread you mentioned but to no avail.

You don't happen to have a link for me?

Hey dave, I'm not sure I understand the reasoning behind the needing 2 PS3s. Wouldn't each team's principal be able to see what is happening for their driver if they are in the same house? I would also consider allowing the use of the tag system for those of us that don't have friends that play Gran Turismo in real life.

Finally found this... Smooth Plux, real smooth...

I do believe it's so you can check other drivers more then your own as you can view the full timing screen

You can watch everyone with a 2nd PS3 and thus Spot / Warn / Catch cheats etc etc with your Team Manager (which can be one of your drivers).

One of the big thingys with this competition is that you have to switch drivers for real so you have to be at the same place for that to happen.

P.S.
Still can't find that thread you mentioned, Gadget ?

That should really be race steward's jobs, instead of the team race manager's.

Even if one of your co-drivers is using another PSN, it would still be a different person driving and therefore you would be changing drivers "for real".

The way this works is so your team principle can monitor direct competition, example you are chasing second place, and you are in third, the games natural time splits go to the leader not the car in position ahead, your team principle can then see what the time split is forward or behind, they can also see if there is a slower car ahead or a crash and know how to avoid it, like being a real race director,

We already have 5 teams willing to this properly, so any further teams will have to do it properly, it wouldn't be fair to others if the text box kept popping up in the middle of the nordshliefe every hour, specially being sleep deprived it would potentially ruin someones race,

According to your first part, lavandel misunderstood a race manager's job. Speaking of split times, I take it you'll be setting it as a race of 200 laps instead of Free Run? Otherwise, the split time would be off of the best lap time. I've seen some occurrences of people doing over 200 laps for their N24 races against the AI. Of course it was only around 205ish laps. Of course if you have any Cautions at all, that will definitely make it so people can't get past 200 laps within 24 hours.

5 teams = 5 cars. I just fear that if you don't open this up a bit more, you won't have enough cars on track to warrant running it. I would definitely be willing to run, but due to the whole "having people to come over to your house thing", or rather the "having people that can drive simulation racing" and the "2 PlayStation's" thing, I can't. I'm the only one of my group that plays Gran Turismo.

We aren't using cars which can do 200+ laps...

And also Peel find people, there are lots of drivers out there who will be fine with travelling...

Can anyone please (with sugar on top) provide me with a link to TDZDave's thread with available cars?

Hi Lav

OK the link for the N24 Car Selection Series (N24CSS) is on the CRAP Forums.

http://www.crap.boards.net/index.cgi?board=29&action=display&thread=462

So as not to confuse we are talking about 2 things here.

1. Interest for Teams of 3 drivers or more entering the annual Nurburgring 24 Hour Race in Feb next year along broadly the same lines as the previous 2 events. The grid will be limited to 7 teams of 3 drivers, and each team must race from the same location and have 2 PS3's logged into the race room. The first is shared by the drivers and driver changes are done to coincide with pit stops, and the 2nd PS3 is used in Spectator mode and can be used by the Team Manager to view the Timing Screen or view in car streams from the other cars. This is a very big part of strategy for the N24 and really 'made' the race this year.

For 2014 the N24 will be run on GT6 with the cars mentioned in Dave's post, I.e GT3 versions of the Merc SLS, Audi R8, BMW Z4, Nissan GTR and maybe other yet confirmed.

2. In order for teams to form and get used to racing in a team environment there will be an'N24 Car Selection Series' which is currently up on the CRAP forums. This will be run on GT5 between mid Sept and Nov. it is open to teams (3 drivers or more) only but will NOT require drivers to physically get together in the same location. It will instead use a multi lobby system which is explained in the above thread. The main purpose of the N24 CSS is to encourage the forming of teams, and promote the discipline of racing in a team in preparation for the annual race in Feb. Teams using this series to prepare for Feb will be known as 'Pro Teams' but this series will also be open to casual racers that just want to try team racing in a series but have no intention of doing the Feb race, either because its too long, or because they can't travel to a single team location to race. These teams will be known as Amateur Teams but will race together with the Pro Teams

In order to add some 'worth' to the N24 CSS, the final points scored in the championship will decide which teams have 'first pick' of the available cars for the N24 in Feb. That shouldn't mean too much to the outcome of the result because the cars available will be 'performance balanced' ( weight/bhp) so as to be fairly equal, but I'm sure teams will have their favourites and the N24 CSS will give preference on that.

The N24 CSS can host a maximum of 14 teams per race (allows for 2 race stewards logged in). We currently have 5 'Pro Teams' and potentially 2 'Amateur Teams' committed, so follow the link and come join the fun

Yes we set the number of laps for something greater than is humanly possible in 24 hours but finish the race on the clock just like at Le Mans or the real N24

BTW, Lav DOES get how the 2nd PS3 is used because he raced with us in this years race, but maybe his explanation could have been clearer ;)

If you just want to try the team race thing you can register solo interest and we'll try and hook you up with some other soloists as a 3 man team just to race in our N24 CSS, but as previously stated, for the actual N24 teams do need to be in the same physical location. Unless something on GT6 changes to allow virtual car sharing from remote PS3's that is going to remain for the foreseeable future, and to be honest, it is half of the attraction because it is genuinely a great social event :)

We maybe only at 5, last year was 3, the first year you had to qualify in as there was so much interest, however, 4 teams rage quit less then half way through the event, and another quit in the last 6 hours, we would rather only 5 cars who will see the event out as oppose to an influx of geese that couldn't be bothered finishing last because they just were unlucky or didn't get the drivers to test enough,

Here here Dave. We'd like to think that 'Completion' of the event is every teams minimum goal, and I completely agree, I'll take quality of quantity any day of the week.

Wait, you actually bothered to run a 24 hour event with only 3 cars on track?

Oh, and Gadget's idea for the solo driver team-up sounds splendid.

It was still fun, but this comes back to WHY have 2xPS3's per team. Without that timing info the race experience would have been much, much less enjoyable.

Having said that, this year we are very confidant of having a full grid of 7 teams

Everyone,

As I've posted on the CRAP forum I'm going over everything today and there may well be changes made regarding the 24hr race.

I took it over from Wurks and have yet to put much in due to real life but that ends today, most of my day will be spent focussed on ensuring that my vision for the big race sees the light of day and the race is bigger and better in 2014.

Big thanks to Dave and Gadget for their work so far, I will be in touch with you both ASAP and we will work on making a big event even bigger! I'm looking forward to your continued input as it is both invaluable and essential to ensuring a successful event.

Expect an event thread up soon guys, within a few days :)

As this is going to take place in GT6 I seem to remember talk from either Kaz or a Sony Manager that there may be a viewing option for online races (eg for the team manager) that won't impact on the number of driving participants. So this is really just a heads up to consider the possibility of allowing more teams to enter dependent on the introduction of that feature.
