It has been confirmed that the Audi A8 flagship sedan will live on for another generation, and will look very similar to the 2021 Grandsphere Concept. The production model is also expected to retain the generous footprint of the Grandsphere which measures 5,350 mm (210.6 inches) long with a wheelbase that stretches to 3,190 mm (125.6 inches). Those figures are 48 mm (1.9 inches) and 62 mm (2.4 inches) longer than the current fourth-gen Audi A8L while being slightly short of the A8L Horch.

The Grandsphere came fitted with dual electric motors producing a combined 711 hp (530 kW / 721 PS) and 960 Nm (708 lb-ft) of torque, and a 120 kWh battery offering 466 miles (750 km) of range. Those figures could be mirrored by the A8 E-Tron, or at least by its more powerful trim. The concept also came with all-wheel-steering and a sophisticated adaptive suspension. Still, Autocar reports that the drivetrain and handling are “no longer at the top of the design specifications” for Audi which is focusing more on luxury, high-tech, and autonomous driving capabilities.

Awful. To throw away 4 decades of consistent design theming for that? It's even more egregious than what BMW did with the current 4 Series.

Will reserve judgement till we see the actual A8 as that's still pictures of the concept car. I certainly can't see that they'd retain that rear end.
I expect the real A8 to carry a few styling cues from this, maybe its overall rough shape, but there's no way that roofline is getting carried over. Its a good 8 inches lower than the current A8. They won't sacrifice head room, especially in the rear, for a car that's quite likely to be used to chauffeur people around. Not when the batteries are likely to be slung under the passenger compartment.
