New Avante/Elantra was just unveiled. Unfortunately (at least for the US) they have dropped the 201hp N-Line version. (full N performance version with new 2.5L should be coming still)

IMO it's better than the current generation, but my slightly biast opinion is that they will never top the 2017-2018 Sport design.

Ridiculous how they beat everyone back to the Eighties square biz. The 74 is awesome. The Pony EV thing is awesome. Now this.

The C pillar is a bit distracting, but they got me. Imagine if it had the 74 headlight treatment.

A coupe version would be nuts.

I like the design in general but there is a few things I would change:

I think the rear light look a bit weird. I think it is the vertical line that I’m not really liking. Now I don’t really know what I would change to make it look better but probably having the turn signal in the bumper, the reverse light in the middle of the light bar effect that they have going and keeping the brake/position where they are would look better IMO.

Love the muscular design (reminds me a bit of the m concept that BMW showed mixed with a bit of polestar design), But for some reason it look a bit to high. It is weird cause they didn’t say it was taller than the current gen but I don’t know. It looks has if it has as much clearance has my mom Nissan kicks.

I hope the change the interior for the n line/ N models cause not having tachometer in the dashboard is a crime against humanity (well at least the car enthusiasts community). I get that most people doesn’t really care has it is still a popular daily driver for non enthusiasts. But I really hope we can get a real instrument cluster in the sportier trims and maybe bring back the handle on the centre console for the passenger instead of the second charging pad for a sportier feel on the interior.

For the N line/ N model, here in Canada the n line of the new gen is expected to have the same powertrain has the Kia k4 (1.6 turbo (195 hp) and 8 speed automatic (no dry dct anymore😕)). Has for the n I would expect the 2.5L mated to either an 8 speed wet dct, or 6 speed manual… we will have to see.

And yes a hatch and or a coupe version would be very cool.

That said I’m thinking about changing my car next year and I would probably still try to get a 2026 n line instead of the 2027, at least until they release the more exciting trims…

Surprised at how sporty it looks, and it is not even an N-Line variant. A shame we're unlikely to see the Elantra sold in the UK market (the i30 has just been axed), but it would be nice to see this design language applied to other compact models.

I know it takes inspiration from the N-Vision 74, but the side view also reminds me of the widebody Mitsubishi Starion with the boxy arches, C-pillar treatment and ducktail spoiler:

If they made a coupe version I could set it like an ur-Quattro/Coupe GT. Appearance of a hatch with a short boot lid.

Not sure what I make of it to be honest.

When I first saw the current i30/pre-facelift in images (that's how they are named here) to me it looked liked it came pre-crashed to save you the hassle of doing it. It looked much nicer the first time I saw it in the flesh but I still thought it was meh. The design did grow on me and when the full N version came out it kind of made sense.

I feel like this could be the same, can definitely see potential there, much more than the current gen.

Exactly. The 2017 design still is the PEAK.

Pretty bold. The Lego block front & rear(diffuser) bumpers are catching my eye as a bit over styled, but it’s a hit for me. Keeping saloons alive in the under German luxury car price bracket.
