I wonder if there will be some sort of real time 24 hour race incorportated? It would be thrilling to do a 3 hour stint, then pass it on to another player, who will then pass it on to another. There could be organised teams and races, i dont think anything like this has been done before and would surely be an outstanding feature.
Quick races are fun, but this could just be something else!

Shhhz don't let everything out of the bag just yet.
No actual it is my thoughts that yes this could happen.

TGS will probably be the final word on everything.

There is nothing new about 24 hour racing in the GT series. Myself and a bunch of mates have done it - 4 hours each. Did it just to say we had, but got very, very boring.

^ Yes it has, but now do it online with a driver that is not in the immediate room.
If this new spectator mode gives players the ability to communicate vital info about other drivers and track conditions. Why not have driver changes?

That's the impression I'm getting when I viewed the slide show presentation at last year's TGS. Team Builder, Spectator mode, etc.

I think sidsid118 could be referring to 24 hour online-races whereby players from different time-zones around the world could be taking turns.
This would mean creating teams with people you can trust ( and who's ability you can rely on ) to take over the wheel at a certain time.
This is probably much more difficult to accomplish than it sounds ( whose car are you going to use, what if online connection problems or powercuts happen during the race? etc. etc. ).
Although not turning up at that particular time could probably be resolved by employing B-Spec Bob.:)

^ Agreed.
I'm sure you guys have driven against someone your willing to race with. As far as who's car your going to use? That will be worked out in Team Builder. There will be a check in time for teams and their drivers and with at least this spectator mode. You can communicate with your team's drivers.

Most of what would be needed to run a 24 hour race is in place. Private rooms, damage, dynamic light cycles, spectating. Once they have spectating it would be relatively trivial to implement driver changes. Come into the pits choose driver change and pick someone who is spectating. What would be really cool is if spectators on your team would have a separate room where they would have access to race telemetry and were able to plot strategy for the race. I'm really hoping that PD implement something like this especially since Yamauchi took part in the 24h of Nurburgring. The big problem is connection problems. They would need central servers or rotating hosts to make sure the race could continue. If someone had a connection issue, the car could be sent to the pits automatically for someone else to take over.

^ Awesome. I'm sure no one wants to be singled out for having a poor connection. Their reputation would be on the line. Get it Online? Ok, ok lame joke.

That was a lame joke but admitting it made it funny ;), although what really messes up your reputation is crashing and totalling your car in the first corner when your teammates are watching.....

This whole spectator thing however got me wondering if some people ( or more accurately punters ) would change their "driving" habits and started to make a decent effort in the knowledge of being watched by other people apart from other competitors.

This online 24 hour team race could perhaps be realised as Zathra5_ explained, only leaving connectivity and powercuts as a real possible problem.
But then again, what's the worst that can happen? Retiring from a race due to technical problems? Welcome to motorsport.....:)

That's a really good point. The fact that you can record and save (and publish on Youtube) in GT5 makes karma kinda obsolete.

This will almost certainly happen in online private rooms, and I will almost certainly be taking part.

Couldn't have said it better.
With the use of spectator mode it would be possible for teams to check and monitor their competitor's times and adjust race strategies accordingly. We did get something like this with GT4 and B-spec.

I'm sure there will be enough people interested in this to get it up and running. November 2nd cannot come round soon enough.

Same here, will be looking forward to rolling the old XJR-9 out again. 👍

If only I was able to roll my Porsche 956/962 out. :indiff:

Oh well, I will have to stick to my Peugeot 905.

I love this whole idea, as I've been thinking about it a lot myself.

Online 24h races at Nürburgring and Circuit de la Sarthe will be pure awesomeness, and imagine how realistic it will be now when we have day/night transition! Add tire wear and fuel consumption (which we will likely have) and we've got the most epic virtual racing experience ever! Any PC simulator will be outclassed!
