I just got my 240SX painted and now I need to start with the engine modifications. I have a pretty steady income so I am willing to put out some dollers, nothing super priced though. Also it is the 2.4 liter engine.

If you could list a mod or two for starters a website with maybe some extra information and a general price range I would greatly appreciate it.

Unless you plan on turbo'ing it, its not worth the money/effort bro. I'd say look into getting a CA18DET or SR20 like myself.

Things to remember:
1) Your car is older than dogcrap if its an S13 (like mine), which means your bushings + balljoints + anything else rubber is SHOT. Get it replaced NOW.
2) Your suspension is dog crap, its 10+ years old, time to think about that, unless you have changed it. In that case, good on you.
3) I have no idea why you painted it first, you're going to mess that paint up a bit with dings/scratches/dents from doing motor work on it
4) Your clutch/flywheel, they're done. Time for a new oem/aftermarket one.
5) Always remember, replace essentials BEFORE you do engine mods, if this is your daily driver. My S13 is just a fun car, my project, so I didnt worry about essentials when I did my SR20 swap.
6) Easy bolt on, which everyone from my grandma to ricers, a CAI.
7) If you dont plan on turbo'ing your car, DONT get any larger than 2.5 pipe. You dont need 3 inch, it will only hurt you.

I know I am going to get the get out of GTP spam if I ask this question but since I am only 16 and joined GTP because of my experience with A-Spec than I guess it is legit, "Everyone knows what a CAI (Or whatever you specified in the last post) is -except me, see I am real life car stupid? So help a brother out bud and fill the n00b in.

Ah. If you arent very car savvy, a SR20DET or CA18 would both be horribly things for you to have, as both require a good deal of knowledge about them to keep them maintained.

CAI = Cold Air Intake. Little cones that go on the end of your MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor) that replace your air filter box.

The best thing you could do right now is buy a Nissan OEM manual or a Chiltons Manual and start doing the maintenance section. This will give you a brief overview of your vehicle. Change your transmission and differential fluilds, Oil, flush your radiator, change your air filter, etc. You really shouldnt start upgrading without atleast a basic knowledge of cars.

:D Cool, man I will go out and get one of those then. CAI, yes I know what that is lol just never heard of the abbrevation (SP). I am seriously considering selling my 240 for a TSi AWD Talon like mine just better shape.

Greddy makes a 20G turbo kit for the K engine that you have now. Its about 3,500, but think you will spend almost that much to do any swap.Plus you will still have that 2.4. A 2.4 will starting making boost at about 3,400 rpm with a 20G. Much better than a 2.0, 5,000

If you want performance out of your 240sx, best option go for a PS13 or RPS13 front cut.

I dont know how cars are treated in the US, but most silvias and 180sx's that are in australia are in rather good nic. The Japanese seem to look after there cars pretty well. Theres always some servicing needed but not to the extent you explain.

I know a couple of dudes around here that have built KA's and the biggest problem with building a KA is most of them have pretty high mileage. Before any upgrading took place they took and rebuilt the engine, as well as some transmission and drivetrain were replaced, before the rebuild they took and balanced the engine.

after all of this is when they slapped the turbo on. From what I've seen and felt driving and watching a turbo'd KA is pretty freakin stout, the low gearing and quick acceleration make up for spool time. as for top end there are many alternatives, my fav was what Kai did with his, he took and put an S15 tranny with 1st 2nd and 3rd gears from the KA giving it some bottom and top end. I dont know how he managed it but he did.

so the KA isnt that bad of a platform it needs a lot of work, that is if you have that kind of time. Most just slap an SR20 just because its somewhat of an easy way out of all that work.

but no matter if you go KA or SR (or even CA18) its what you wanna do, each of these motors have emense capabilities and harness their own unique power. So its all up to you man.

Something I have to mention: a KA24DE can easily handle a 3" exhaust. The statement that such an exhaust is harmful is a myth, albeit a very common one. I got a defenite, noticeable, power, and especially response, increase, when I installed my EX-MAG. (80mm piping)

The myth that such a large exhaust doesn't produce enough backpressure has circulated for quite a while, but has been pretty conclusively disproven. For a car with a smaller engine, like, for example, a Honda, it is true, but the KA24 has sufficient displacement and power that a large diameter pipe isn't a problem.

Anyway, though, I'm planning to move up to an SR as soon as I get a few more important mods completed (LSD, probably Nismo, and brakes, probably 300ZX) and get the money. My real hope for the main SR mod is to get the SR22 2.2l stroker kit. In addition, I'll of course upgrade the turbo, and the basic engine mods, I.E. cams, plugs, injectors, FMIC.

is your exhaust the exmag gtII or just exmag? that's like the 4th time i've asked that but it seems you never see it...

i have the exmag gtII on my car with 3 inch piping, i also noticed a large gain at the top end, and it feels the same at the bottom as it did stock, but a little more torquey. with the silencer in, the car is sluggish as ****...so **** back pressure.

takumi, if you get yourself a gutted cat or a test pipe, you'll be shooting flames like this (it's me by the way =]):

Sorry, I've seen you ask it once, and it was a couple weeks old post.

Anyway, it's an EXMAG, not the GT-II. I really needed the semi-stock looks of the EXMAG.

As for the cat, I'm planning on doing mine sometime soon. I'm a big fan of shooting flames. :D
