so today on my way to work i encountered an aggressive driver... not on comon for the portland area i live in...they actually have just passed aggressive driving laws....
now this driver wasn't anything special but what did stand out was his car ...a red 240sx im not sure what year..i'll find a picture of one like it....
This guy passes me...jumping lanes like there's an emergency.... well i did what any self respecting underpowered toyota owner would do...i used trafic to block and get ahead....i wasn't really speeding but he was flyin so he didn't notice how the traffic was ahead..we were on a four lane road so i got all the way over to the right and he ended up getting stuck behind some semi' trucks...this made him go all the way right and end up right behind me...
at this point i was thinkin this guy was a loser and didn't even know what a 240sx was good for.....now comes our exit ....it was a nice round farley tight 90 right hander to a straight....so like the toyota lover i am i demonstrated perfect line through the corner that alowed me a fast entry and exit ...i did this just to see how this guy cornered and put some distance between us.
he was about 4 cars behind and i was grinning as i looked in my mirror to see his line...and my jaw dropped!!!!!
he pulled a good line but he was SIDEWAYS ya he pulled off a nice little drift.....so now i knew it was to the point where this could start getting dangerous....im not one to do a lot of raod racing....i like to stay in vacant lots and streets in the rain...
so to keep this from turning into a road raged testosterone fest i reached out the window and waved my hand around to give him props.
so it was a short jet to the next corner which was identical to the first just a little shoter......and in my head i knew this guy had more power, and his car looked pretty much stock but because the fact that my car is a stock 83 celica and it wasnt raining out i knew i had to push it to slide thru the corner....
so i did what any self respecting underpowered toyota owner would do....HEEL TOE!!!
lol, ya i wish .... but i did increse my speed shift my wieght and set my rpm's right in the power range...and ya i slid ....not like a 500 hp supra but i slid ..
so the beautiful thing about this is that this 240 was behind me just a few car lengths and he set up and drifted close to the same line that i took and of course his looked better but there was this moment when mid corner i could hear both our cars reving and screeching ...oh i wish i could have been standing on the corner to watch.....
then as we hit the straight he pulled in the next lane and walked away.....but as he passed we both meet eyes and gave a mutual wave....and at that point it wasn't about who was passing who or toyota or 240 ....no nothing but a mutual understanding and a shared passion for rear wheel drive and corners..
so mr 240 maybe we'll meet again on some downhill mountian pass one rainy night....
