Steward's Comments:

Nice job everyone!

Cheers,

OLR Team.

Important notices:
To streamline the WRS administration process, all required replays for this race must be submitted within 7 days. This thread will be listed as "Provisional" and will become "Official" once all posted replays have been verified. After 7 days, all drivers who fail to provide a requested replay will have their lap disqualified. (Beware: disqualification isn't taken lightly within the WRS.)
Drivers who do not have a submitted lap posted in the results are not to post any information related to a laptime they might have achieved in the results thread. Any such posts will have the times removed.

Replay Verification Requests:
This week we would like to see replays for all indicated results. All replays are to be posted here.

Instructions on how to upload your replay can be found here - https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3180607&postcount=2

Replay Checking:

  1. It is customary for all participants of the WRS to verify each others submitted replays
  2. Once you have checked the replay, post in this thread to say that you have checked it and whether it's clean, dirty or doesn't meet the required race specifications
  3. When verifying a replay, check against this weeks race specification, check that the tyres are the correct compound and that the power and weight is correct for example
  4. If you are unsure about a replay, always seek a second opinion before posting

Congrats everyone :)

Nice win Joao! 👍

Great job Joao my friend. 👍 What's with the handicap there though? I have to say Vaxen, with a dominant win like that on a very tricky week, the winner's handicap should at least be in D1 territory.

It's always difficult to set the handicap properly when there's a small sample. Essentially, I do a "curve fit" among all of the submissions, with a higher weight given to those with lower handicaps (since they tend to be more consistent). The computer spits out a number, and that's what I go with.

It was a challenge to keep all 4 wheels on the track

Congrats everyone on a great race.

Great win Joao. I guess Jet's phenominal last half wasn't actually..... well I don't know.

Great drive to the finish line Marc. A 45.432 was a full tenth plus faster than mine. Man I can't wait for the replay to see how you screamed like that through the esses. I suspect you didn't lift on the last turn where I did for an instant.

Great run for all the podium finishers and to all of you guys actually for sticking this one out.

Fair go mate. 👍 Thanks for responding anyway. A great job you do with the handicap system it must be said.

Thanks Ron 👍

My posted splits aren't from my submitted lap though. I hit that lap at 7:52 - submitted with 4 minutes to go - so I didn't make it to the thread in time to update the splits after reviewing the lap and geting the Fetchy confirmation.

20.697
24.904 ----> 45.601 (off by ~.1 versus posted splits)
27.044
Were the splits from my submitted lap.
I never did figure out how to get through T1 consistently, or overly quick, but I was Lovin' T2 and 3.
I did lift on 2 of the last 3 bends (not the middle one) to be safe - when I run that close to the dealine and am ahead of my ghost the final sector always gets a safer run than usual.
Most of my dirty laps actually had nothing to do with boundaries - It was wall taps that were driving me nuts. My 4 best laps all tapped walls (one was so close that I couldn't even tell in the data logger if I hit it so it got discarded) - once in T1, and 3 times in the entrance to the T3 tunnel.

Congrats to Joao and everyone else who ran podium laps
Man that was a close finish in D2 :D

I was bummed after last week but this helps to make things better. Congrats to all the podium finishers!

DQ for hitting the wall at the exit of turn 1.

Well done GDS on your top three handicap! :D I like to see my D4 brothers (and sisters?) doing well. Small turn out this week though. Is it because the car was DLC? :odd:

Congrats to winners and podium finishers in each division.

My T3 and T4 must have been a bit slow as Ren snagged the D3 win from me. I was struggling through those two sectors the entire week and I don't think I ever made progress in getting faster through the last half of the track.

I think it's been a few weeks since Ren and I have been top of the D3 times.

I'll have my replay posted tomorrow.

Updated the LB with your RED sector, Marc.

 to Joao, Marc, and Ron for conquering this twisty ribbon.

 Ren for your D3 win! 👍

Thanks, guys (and thanks for posting the T3-4 table, Lucas 👍).

Congrats, Joao, Marc, and Ron, and to Brinomial for his first Div 3 podium , podiums and participants all.

Tricky track, good way to learn it for me, I think. Nice flow, but turn 1-2... :banghead:

Thanks to Marc & team for the evil combo, Kev for the tune and Vaxen for the results.

Unfortunately I can't find the replay for this week. Either I inadvertently overwrote it or didn't save it. I have every replay around it, so my guess is I didn't save it.

Nice times guys :), I managed to get a time submitted this week woohoo :P. I knew my T3 time was pretty poor anyway so happy to finish 3rd in D2 :D, anyway will get my replay up when I find a USB stick .

And Thanks to the WRS team for organising this sweet event ;).

Congrats to everyone on the podium, unfortunately I didn't have time for this as I am back in college now :(

Great job to everyone who took the time to submit a time and to all those who did so well in the last half of the track 👍 just amazing. I don't know if my car could ever get up to speed for some reason I could only muster 127mph at the line and I saw one reference to crossing the line at 130. If someone could let me know what the top speed across S/F should have been that would help. Loved the combo, good luk w/ all your reviews.

I was crossing anywhere between 127 and 130. It all depended on how I got through that final corner.

Lefty, I didn't check my speed at the end of the lap but I too was somewhat dumbfounded at the reference to 130mph at the line. The best I could muster was 127 myself, so don't feel too bad. Even if I was 3mph slower at the line, I still had the fastest T1 split time.

During the Academy challenge, I watched Tidgney's replay and comentary on getting a fast lap at Motegi. He said if your a couple of MPH down at the start line, don't worry about. It's not that important. Getting through that first turn, carrying enough speed through it and getting a good launch off of it is much more vital to a good lap.

I think the same can be said here. Getting through the first chicane and that first right hander after, was much more important than a few MPH at the line.

Now if you are one of those that drive multiple laps consecutively, I think a good run through the esses could yield 130MPH at the line if you were willing to do a little curb jumping and grass mowing, sacrificing the lap to a better speed at the line.

Oh, almost forgot:

Yup it was me :P I was actually doing 129mph across the line, I re-checked the replay of the slpits I posted on the 5th. The T1 time from that lap is the same as my submitted lap ( 20.319 ) where I crossed the line at 127mph, which kinda proves that it's more about getting the first corner right although you really want to be doing both :D.

PS MY T500 RS just came in the mail wooooooohooooooooooo :dopey: :dopey: :dopey: :dopey::cheers::gtpflag:

I spent a lot of time on this last night and did submit a lap which I was happy with confident was clean, but then removed it after watching the replay again. That second corner was very deceptive from bumper view. Then I was hooked to the tennis so didnt try again.

Congrats to UsualSuspect all on your own in D1, I can tell you that's a great lap, I'm disappointed I couldn't give you the competition in D1 this week

I was averaging 205-208 KM/h (approx 128 mph) but I had the worst T1 times all week so the S/F line speed really didn't matter too much IMO. getting through the chicane and maintaining momentum was way more important. I think I hit 209 once ;)

Lucas was telling me he wasn't braking for the first chicane, but I always did a touch. I found that down shifting slowed me down too much and caused extra turn in so I had to use the brakes instead to keep it steady while staying in 5th gear. I never hit a .4 in T1, and only 1 or 2 .5's.

Great job Joao my friend. 👍 What's with the handicap there though? I have to say Vaxen, with a dominant win like that on a very tricky week, the winner's handicap should at least be in D1 territory.

There's not much you can do with a distribution on a small set of submissions. Occupational hazard of doing 80+ weeks of WRS? Perhaps a maths genius could work out a balancing factor....who knows! ;)

I don't think Joao should take much notice of handicap, but moreso the fact he beat some seasoned and very solid, fast D2 drivers by a big margin. 👍 Joao!

Quite a bit hard this, lots of close calls but I think everything is inbounds

I would agree. I am still not sure how all this handicap stuff works, but I would think with the rules this week a lot of adjustments should be made. If a normal week takes into account that two tires must be on the track at all times, something that is very close to the rules and limits imposed by the game itself, then, when one is forced to drive at least a second slower lap due to the imposed rules, that handicap and or PAR, Gold, Silver, and Bronze times should be adjusted accordingly.

Ron, that's not how it works. I'm not privy to the formulae and programming, but it's all based off our submissions - the handicap, division and colour splits are set from our overall pace, not admin theory. The rules or difficulty of a combo shouldn't enter in to it at all (they did, but not directly - I'll get to that).

The problem is, as has been mentioned, the stats and curve fitting do much better with more data - more submissions. Difficulty and the nature of the combo does affect that a bit, but so do other things.

Note that Joao was really only a hair's breadth from the calculated D1 time, anyway. I think that the cluster of D2s slugging it out in close proximity for the podiums probably made a difference too (in that, speaking only intuitively curve-fitting-wise, the "clump" looked like the middle of D2 instead), but I don't have any maths to back that up.

The handicap adjustment system is supposed to be (in theory) pretty much a zero-sum game, I believe.
And thanks for the check

EDIT: My car was definitely full power after I finally remembered to let Bruce have at it; 127-128 or 9 seems right. I noticed (typically when I was on the wrong line) that too much steering input would actually scrub more speed in the car than a tiny lift much earlier in the corner. If the line was right (and it seemed a little unusual to account for the "hump", IMHO), I don't think that was necessary.

The short gap after the line made the start speed particularly irrelevant. The technique involved in turn 1 and 2 will be interesting - I think I could see .3s, but I can't remember if I ever got a clean one. I'll probably wind up actually comparing Joao's turn 1 with his Bus Stop at Daytona, oddly.

Congratulations to all who entered this week

First, good news, went online and saw that the best price for a G27 in Portugal was a store 5Km from my house :dunce: so kissed €200 good by and bought today a new wheel.

Now for this week combo, for me, without a doubt the most difficult week of all, with the different rullings that made a nightmare to be clean and with a flickering brake, don´t really know why i didn´t give up, and now with the handicap beating wish i had...
It´s a bit unfair to enter a week if few people participate and none of the top guys on D1 enter, just a tought...

And this overall victory has a different taste from the other that i had, pity that a few more people didn´t accept the challenge but i understand them, without no disrespect to Marc and the others on D2, that i think they really pushed it 👍

Big congrats to Marc and Ron 👍

Thanks Chris, Matt and all others
