I could some this film up in 2 words "******* excellent". But that wouldn't be ethical of a proper critic now would it, but im not a proper critic. But i shall review it for you anyways. I should mention i didn't think much of the 1st movie (28 Days later). It got brilliant reviews but i had no idea why, it was just very limp. It came out around the same time as 2 other Brit horror flicks the very good (the 1st time round) Deathwatch & what has turned out to be my fav film of all time Dog Soldiers.
Anyways, this film. The plot is Robert Carlyle legs it from a house with his wife in (& a few others) that are being killed by the "rage" infected people/zombies. "28 weeks later" the virus is dead and people are aloud back into Londond. Cue Robert Carlyle's kids to arive & for them to mess it all up (basically).
The opening sequence is just superb, there is no other word for it. From the second the "zombies" bust into the house, your heart is pumping & i guarentee you, you'll be (not literally) on the edge of your seat. Toward the end of the sequence i really wanted to shout "run, RUN!!" i was sucked in. There is one camera shot that made you just go "oh ****" when the camera pans around & shows you a huge hord of the "zombies" its seriously intense.
Right now i've stoped rambling about that bit, we can get to the rest of the film. It might drag slightly after that start (but thats inevitable after such a beginning). All the cast are great, especially Robert (as usual). They actually found some non-annoying kids as well. Although the boy does have that typical hair cut. The guy playing Doyle is really good. As is the beautiful Rose Byrne.
The action is frequently tense. And i stand by that these "zombies" are much better than the Romero or Resident Evil kind. If they can leg it after you, thats alot more terrifying in real life. There is a sequence about half way through that is visually amazing (you'll know it when you see it). And there is a death scene that is so wrong, its quite hard to watch. It's not horrific like Saw, it jus shouldn't have happened. I was quite mad at the screen lol. And i definately had a tear.
Apart from it slightly dragging in the middle, some slightly annoying American influences & for some reason the to close-up PG-13 editing (its an18!). This film is light years better than the 1st. Please see this film!
