$299 Ceramic White Playstation 3 shipping to retailers

We were glad to bring you the news of the $299 Playstation 3 yesterday when it was still very much under wraps. We have told you yesterday that there will be a new Playstation 3 model. This is partly true. The changes to the new Playstation 3 model are only aesthetic. The new Playstation 3 model for the United States is the exact same one that launched in Japan a couple months ago. The specifications are identical to that of the regular 40GB Playstation 3 available today in the US. Sadly this new 40GB Playstation 3 will have the same shortcomings as its older counterpart in the respect that it will be missing backwards compatibility and will have no memory-card readers.

The new Playstation 3's will be shipping to US retailers any day. From what we heard, the new consoles will be arriving to retailers Friday night this week, and will go on sale Monday. Demand is expected to be very high, but Sony is supposedly cutting down on supply of the new console.

The regular 40GB Playstation 3 will also be dropping in price to match its counterpart at $299, but sadly the 80GB Playstation 3 will only be benefiting from a $50 price-drop, to $449.99

As of Monday, January 28, 2008 there will be 3 Playstation 3 SKU's available in the US market.

40GB White Playstation 3 - $299.99 (missing B/C, 2 USB ports, and memory-card readers)
40GB Black Playstation 3 - $299.99 (missing B/C, 2 USB ports, and memory-card readers)
80GB Black Playstation 3 - $449.99 (software based B/C, 4 USB pots, has memory card readers)

No news on a 80GB Ceramic White Playstation 3 as of right now, but Sony is staying open to the idea. Their game plan as of right now is to move as many Playstation 3 units by March, 31, 2008 as possible, this has to do something with Warner's exclusivity deal, we'll get back to you on this as soon as we learn more.

80Gig is being phased out according two separate rumors regarding Target and Best Buy.
If the rumor is true they should have gone Ice Silver first.

Read between the lines; i was pointing out how there is really no way Sony would already implement a price cut.
 
300$? i dont need b/c because my ps2 still works, well, besides blue disks and ps1 games ... but, erm ... my ps1 still works. if FFXIII was released with those price drops, id be hard pressed to pass this up.
 
Never needing memory cards is a great thing. I love that bonus for using PS3 for ps1 and ps2. And the wireless controller, progressive scan for all games and upscaling of ps1 games. It may not be needed but its a great feature that i take advantage of and love.
 
I just don't get why the PS3 can't be region free for PS2 games, really sucks!
 
Ahh, I'd always wanted a white PS3 (PS1 - grey, PS2 - black, PS3 - white). But I'm happy with my 60Gb I got. ^_^

Its probably a typo, they mean missing B/C but including the other two things.

I don't know what the 40's supposed to come with..

No they don't, just read how they wrote it for the 80GB model.
 
That is a great deal, $299.99 for a console like the PS3 which also serves as a good BR player and media center, how can you say no to a PS3 now? The Wii is only $50.00 less (I think).

Ahh...I misunderstood it. I thought it was saying that it was missing B/C but had 2 USB and the card readers.

There are still two USB ports left.

Nope, the 40GB has 2 USB ports so you can use a wheel, the 80GB has 4 USB ports.

That is basing it off of the 80GB, Meaning the 80GB has B/C, 4 USB and memory card readers, opposed to the 40GB which is withought B/C, only 2 USB and no memory card readers.
 
ah ... didnt realise it had 2 or 4. doh!
 
does anybody know if the white ps3 is going to come out in Canada?
