Here we are then folks, the results of this year's Formula 1 Awards, we have had a wee bit more voters than last year which is nice to see and with more catergories, the voting has been very close in some of the awards!

Lets start with, Best Livery of the Year. This is awarded to the finest looking car on the grid, here are all the entries that recieved votes:

Williams
McLaren
Renault
Honda
Spyker
Toro Rosso

And the winner is..

McLaren!

It's MP4-21 sure is a stunner, sadly the performance failed to match the looks but there was no denying it's a beauty!

Next catergory, Best Strategist of the Year. This award is for the best brain behind the strategy, only 3 nominees this time round:

Pat Symonds
Ross Brawn
Michael Schumacher

So a Renault-Ferrari showdown here, the winner is,

Ross Brawn!

A important factor that helped Ferrari become so dominent in the past ten years, Ross has earned the title "Best Strategist"

Up next is Best Pit Crew of the Year, here the team that makes usual mechanics look like girls is awarded, again only 3 nominess:

Renault
McLaren
Ferrari

This winner is..

Ferrari!

Ferrari have been working effortlessly during the pit stops this season, with hardly any mistakes to their record, it's no suprise they have taken this award.

Now time to start rewarding the drivers, first up, Rookie of the Year. The season has featured a few newcomers to the sport, but eventually it was only between 2 people:

Robert Kubica
Nico Rosberg

And the 'newb' winner is..

Robert Kubica!

The Pole has impressed both on Fridays and during the races, his podium in Monza was fully deserved as he made an explosive debut season in F1.

Next up is Friday Driver of the Year, this award is only open to those who have raced atleast one weekend only as a friday tester, the nominess are:

Robert Kubica
Anthony Davidson
Sebastian Vettel
Robert Doornbos
Alex Wurz

And the award goes to..

Anthony Davidson!

The Brit has once again pulled in consistent performances for Honda and it would appear as though it has finally payed off, rumoured to be recieving a race drive for Super Aguri.

Keeping up with the driver related awards, next is Best Post-Race Celebration of the Year, sure it can't be Alonso's drunken rampage, can it? The nominees are:

Button, Hungary GP
Alonso, Japan GP
Massa, Brazil GP
Schumacher, China GP
Schmacher, Italy GP

The best dancer goes to..

it's a four-way tie believe it or not! The winners are: Button, Hungary GP. Alonso, Japan GP. Massa, Brazil GP and Schmacher, Italy GP!

Next up, Best Start of the Year, this award goes to the driver who made the finest start in any of the season's Grand Prixs, the nominees are:

Alonso, Hungary GP
Schumacher, Hungary GP
Raikkonen, China GP
Kubica, Italy GP

And the winner is..

Fernando Alonso at Hungary!

Made alot of ground off the start as did Schumacher, however the Spainard managed ot take the Ferrari a few laps later. Of course it eventually wouldn't be his day..

Next award is, Best Overtaking Manoeuver of the Year, seen some lovely overtaking again this year, but which one took the most balls?

Nominees include:

Button on Schumacher, Hungary GP
Alonso on Schumacher, Hungary GP
Schumacher on Raikkonen, Brazil GP
Fisichella on Klien, Monaco GP
Alonso on Schumacher, Bahrain GP

The king of overtaking is..

Michael Schumacher, as he passed Kimi Raikkonen at Brazil!

Next award is for Best Team Improvement of the Year, many teams have improved from last season and ineed during this season, this awards just that, The nominees:

Honda
BMW Sauber
Super Aguri
Toyota
Ferrari

The winning team is..

BMW Sauber!

The team has been lightening fast compared ot their Sauber days of yester-year if they keep this up, they will deffinatley be a threat next season.

And so keeping in trend with the last award, Best Driver Improvement of the Year rewards the driver that has improved the most since last season. The nominees are:

Felipe Massa
Takuma Sato
Rubens Barrichello
Jenson Button

And the award goes to..

Felipe Massa!

The Brazillian may very well be pushing forthe title next season if he continues the improvement shown this season. 2 wins tops it all off.

So, with the improvement all done and dusted, time to go to the rewards for the bad events, first, Stupidest Moment of the Year. The nominees:

M Schumacher stopping during Monaco Quali
Kubica on slicks too early in China
R Schumacher messing about at Canada
Schumacher retiring from Hungary
Raikkonen retiring from Hungary
Williams punting eachother out at Brazil

And the "winner" is..

Michael Schumacher stopping during Monaco Quali!

The plan: Stop in the middle of the track to secure pole. The result: 22nd.

And our second "negative" awards, Villian of the Year, many nominees here so lets get right to it:

Yuuji Ide
Giancarlo Fisichella
Michael Schumacher
FIA
WIlliams' Engineering
Williams
Max Mosely
Jean Todt
Christian Klien
Ron Dennis
Scott Speed
Juan Pablo Montoya
Fernando Alonso

So the unlucky victor of this award is..

Michael Schumacher!

To add to the Hill shunt in '94 and JV Kamikaze in '97, Schumacher's stop in Monaco this season must have pissed off alot of people for him to win this..

Back on the positive now, next up, Best Drive of the Year, this award is for the driver who was untouchable for the day, heres the nominees:

Button, Hungary GP
Massa, Brazil GP
Schumacher, Brazil GP
Rosberg, Bahrain GP
Schumacher, China GP
Alonso, Turkey GP

And Mr.Untouchable is..

Michael Schumacher after his performance in the Brazil GP!

Forced to drop back after a punchure, Schumi managed to climb all the way back to 4th and set the fastest lap.

Now we are at the sharp end of the awards, 4 to go, starting with Hero of the Year, awarded for the person who everyone just couldn't hate at one point in the season. The nominees:

Aguri Suzuki
Jenson Button
Fernando Alonso
Felipe Massa
Takuma Sato
Robert Kubica
Kimi Raikkonen
Michael Schumacher

And the winner is..

Jenson Button!

He took an emotional win at Hungary and managed to keep on working during Honda's slump in form mid-season.

Final 3, next is, Race of the Year, 18 choices, but what one got your vote? Here's the nominees:

Hungary
Brazil
Monaco
Germany
Turkey
China
San Marino

And the award goes to..

Hungary!

Usually a bore fest, that is untill you add rain, then you have the formula for a great race, as you saw this season. The main contenders all went loopy as Button cruised to his maiden victory.

The big two now, first we will start with Team of the Year, the nominees:

Renault
BMW Sauber
Ferrari
Super Aguri

The Team of the Year is..

Renault!

World Champions are now also GTP's Team of the Year for the second year running, can anyone stop this runaway train?

And last but certainly not least, Driver of the Year, Alonso took it last year, will he make it a double award winner? Nominees are:

Michael Schumacher
Fernando Alonso
Robert Kubica
Felipe Massa
Takuma Sato

And the final winner of this season is..

Michael Schumacher!

The first (And probably only) Driver of the Year award for Schumi as he says goodbye to the sport, he has had a fantastic year and some would say he should be a 8 times world champion..

Well, thats all folks! Hope you enjoyed it all and thank you for voting! If you didn't, why not?!

See you all again this time next year when the 3rd Annual GTP Formula 1 Awards takes place!

Lee.

Seriously? Jenson Button is the hero of the year?

And who nominated San Marino as the best race of the year!? :irked:

Oh, and Super Aguri should have won Most Improved Team, no question.

it was amazing hte last few races... to see the improvments in super aguri. they actually had both cars finnish a race!! and one of them was in the top half of field!!!

Considering they had barely tested their car before they turned up to Bahrain, it was a damn fine effort, and it shows real promise for future improvement.

Good job Bee, nice awards.

Who nominated Renault for best pit team? Somebody didnt watch the Hungarian and Chinese races.

As for best overtaking manoevre, I dont see how Michael putting his foot to the floor for an easy pass is better than this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aG1qh-IM2e0
Considering they had barely tested their car before they turned up to Bahrain, it was a damn fine effort, and it shows real promise for future improvement.
Yup, notonly did I vote for them in most improved, I also voted for them as team of the year. Really impressed by how they worked through a 2002 chassis, Yuji Ide and building a team from scratch in just a few months. Shame that in 2008 all the hard work will be thrown out the window as they switch to becoming Honda's second set of cars. There may be podiums and even wins down that road, but the "impressiveness" will be gone.

The "Start" consists of the distance from the starting grid to the first corner.

Clearly the best start of the year was from Kimi in Barcelona where he passed both Toyotas and Hondas to go from 9th to 5th before the 1st corner!

You people need to remember your races better.

Clearly the best start of the year was from Christijan Albers at Monaco when he moved over on Tiago and ruined both of their races on the first lap, with Tiago pitting for a new nose, and Christijan serving a drive-through. ‘Oops.’

Was the vote for Scott Speed as VILLAIN of the year a joke?! I honestly can't recall anything villainous he did other than disappoint an American audience that had expectations WAY to high for him. So really, the only Villain there is SPEED Channel.

As far as overtaking maneuver of the year goes, that was probably the hardest category to decide. If you are used to series that have a better Formula for their cars to overtake with, than F1 wasn't that brilliant. However, if you look beyond how great the passes appear to look and into what has to be done by the drivers Fisi's pass at Monaco is pretty impressive. The way that these cars move around at these speeds it took some real guts to get underneath Coulthard. You can bring up "Well compare the cars, if Fisi didn't get passed Coulthard he should be fired as Coulthard's car just isn't a Renault." Well you know what, whether it was guts or just shear stupidity (the guy probably could have got past David in a safer section of the course) it was pretty impressive. Considering the circumstances, what with the track being Monaco and all I can't disagree with people voting for it. Michael Schumacher's pass on Kimi was rather impressive, so I can't vote against that either... it is really hard to say.

(Not sure if it was Klein or Coulthard that was being passed - in the vid - but the German commentators said Coulthard so I'll take their words for it. Unless they corrected themselves, I am lost when it comes to German, I don't know a word of it... the point is the pass provided in the vid by Sagaris GTB is the one I am talking about. Not even sure if they are the same pass.)

I think my conclusion on overtaking in Formula 1 is; it is really hard to decide what makes a good pass in F1 and we can probably debate until the cows come home on which was best.

Regards,

this has probably been done before, but can anyone post a poll for the best F1 racer ever? just a thought. 👍
