Well basically the cards have fallen in such a way that I'm pretty much required to find a 2nd job in order to afford to live in the short term. Long term (1 - 2yrs time) things are really good but the way my new job is structured until then I'm falling just a bit short. Previously I have made ends meet because I had rented out 2 of my rooms but due to both of them moving out its shown just how vunerable I am and how the sucess of my life is too far out of my control, and too much in others hands. Im not comfortable with this at all and I’m willing to put in some extra effort to change things.

Now its nothing massive but if I could earn at least another 10,000 AUD (8500 USD) a year or more then things would be fine. Not a great deal amount of extra money to find but enough to notice if you dont have it.

If I was to earn that cash I could be fully independent and able to pay everything on my own, which is what I would like.

Now on top of the above scenario I also have 3 spare rooms to which I can rent out for ~ 120 a week per room, Plus id save about 40 - 50 bucks on internet a month as we would split that too, Plus also possibly saving a little on electricity. My parents also owe me a sum of money and I can probably expect to recieve at least 200 to probably 400 a month from them as well (them paying me back).

Dream scenario is to have all my bills and expenses paid with my 2 jobs and have some of the above in place as well, so I can have some fun money and also put stuff aside for things like alcohol / tools / mower / car tyres / emergencies etc.

Now the point of my thread is to gain some ideas / experiences of you guys here who have worked 2 jobs at once. My current (fulltime) job is leave home at 8am and finish at 5pm, with a 15 min travel home, Monday – Friday, every weekend off. So I’m looking for a job that is night shift and preferably only during the week, as I would love to keep my weekends off to recharge / party / drink / hangout / camping etc... But that being said if I need to work some weekends then so be it.

I was thinking of the following
A) Pizza Delivery Driver
B) Night shift at a Service Station (Gas station)
C) Work at a Bar?

Now I have been a pizza delivery driver before, in fact it was my first job and I enjoyed driving around and stuff so that appeals to me, however the extra costs of useing my car might out weight the extra pay. I have had plenty of experience dealing with customers as I have had a sales role for almost 4 years now, so dealing with the public is something that is easy for me.

Any other ideas or experieces?

BTW im 22 years old, have a license and my own car and decent resume / references. Any thing else that you think might be relivant then just ask.

Where in QLD are you? You might find a roomy here. You can sit around and play GT5 all day.

But realistically, I think your only choice is to import some heroin.

Helpful bunch aren't they?!

Are there any quiet bars/pubs near you? Bars can be good fun to work in if the clientèle is friendly and it's not too hectic.

Could always try some teaching jobs in a hobby or an area that you are good in.

For example, I am a qualified swimming teacher. I used to work in a warehouse (as a full-time push-monkey) from 7am to 3pm and would do swimming teaching from 4pm to 6pm if the leisure centres needed cover for sickness or holiday reasons.

Do you have any particular qualifications that would allow you to sort of do something like that?

Does not have to be swimming, it can be computer teaching, Scouts stuff (some of it may be paid for) and whatever else.

Personally, shelf-stacking in a 24 hour shop is the other option...

One thing i could suggest is, take a sum of money (if available) and hit the stock market on your own. Thats what im doing. It takes quit alot of time during the day, but the proft it great!
And to gather 10000$ , thats possible in a year!

Chris

Especially if you're working hard in your day job, it would be good to take something a bit more relaxing for a night shift job. Try something like a clerk in a really small/not busy local business.

I'm doing school full time right now, while working 40 hour weeks...but I don't think I could pull it off unless my job was so easy. When school kicks in, I usually spend more time at my job working on school work than I do actually working.

What are those three jobs? I am sure the original poster would be keen to know what it is. :-).

My 9-5 "proper job" is office/production based for small manufacturing company, puts me in the 20k+ bracket straight off, then I also work saturdays as a sales person (selling Hi Fi (or as Hi Fi as you can get one everyone insists on using iPods :( ). And then alot of my spare time is spent working on websites for people, though the money to be made from this varies alot, I do much less of that these days as my personal life suffers greatly from working pretty much everyday and into alot of evenings.

I don't recommend it, self assessment tax returns are a bugger and if you do it for too long you loose you life to work!

.. Like I say, gambling and robbery are probably easier.

How about a job as a box handler, at your local delivery warehouse. I used to work a FedEx and it was the easiest job.
I worked from 7am-3pm regular job and 5pm-8pm at FedEx; and it was Monday thru Friday. Eventually if you are good they move you up and you can become a driver, they pay really good. atleast here in the States.

Good luck with your seach.

Man-whore.

Seriously, find a hobby you like and go find a job in it somehow. If that's going to cost you more than you're earning, like my jobs at gunshops over the years, go find a different job. One that's at interest to you, but wont cost you money.

Thanks for the help guys.

So far Ive put my resume out at a few places. Sadly most things these days are online applications which takes out my biggest advantage. I love applying face to face or even over the phone, gives you the best opportunity to stand out and be different. Worse case scenario I know I can get weekend work at a retail sales job... Its just i prefer to work nights during the week.

Has anybody else worked 1 full time job with another part time job? How did you feel? how many hours did you work? how did it effect your social life etc? Just curious to know...

So what's the deal with the spare rooms? Are people struggling to live with you? Is the cost an issue? Is the market not very good?

If you're sure you won't be able to rent them out lets look at what you can do with them. Storage will be relatively easy to sort, but low returns and is an issue if you get a willing person to move in and need the room.

Could offer it as small office space. I know atleast 4 people within 2 miles of me who run "computer repair" shops from their home address. Perhaps someone may want to use it as an inventory room for an ebay shop? Still won't earn as much room as a tennant but otherwise it's dead space.

Alternatively, job wise it should be something flexible. Phone-sex worker, commission based job or perhaps delivery like you said before. You'd be surprised how many charities offer commission based work when trying to sell sponsorships.
