Well, right now, I have no car. My old one has been passed to Charles (friend), and now I'm forced to travel by bus and cab.
Right now, I've been looking at 3 used cars.

Porsche 944 Turbo S

Porsche 924 GT (I found a replica)

And a crazy dream of finding a
Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II.

I know the 944 is my best bet, but just wondering if anyone can help me.
Greatly appreciated.

There was 1 other car, but I decided to see how many results I could get for these before looking for the Porsche 928.

Exactly what do you want us to do? All you've done is told us you're looking at three cars.
I was hoping someone could help me find any of these in Europe. My searches lead to dead ends with the Mercedes and it seems only the 944 is the one I can find for sale.
I'd also like to know if these cars like the Mercedes are even worth looking for.

Merc Evo II's were built in very low numbers(500), most will be in collectors hands, any available on the open market will cost you upwards of 30k Euros. An Evo I without the wild body kit but with almost the same engine and chassis will cost you less than half the price.

the only EvoII i could find: http://www.turbocentre.co.uk/view_car.php?id=361

944 Turbos are plentiful (i'd also look for the 944 S2 that was a little slower but better handling)

924 Carrera GT is probably one of the most underated sports cars ever (0-60 in under 5.5 anyone?) and they haven't yet become highly collectable, therefore you should still be able to pick one up for a reasonable price (15-16k Euros) - They're a surefire future classic and will be an investment. 👍

928 - Again a much underestimated (and undervalued) classic. I keep thinking i'll get one myself one of these days. The original 928 is probably the cleanest looking, but its hard to find a good straight one. The 928S2 or S4(newer shape) are the sensible choice, both of which you should be able to find good examples for between 12-18K Euros. Only down side is the cost of fuel in europe for a 5ltr car.

Whats your price range?

Is it for use in Europe or for export?

My price range is one I haven't really concentrated on although I should. I'm hoping for anything under the 25K Euros really. This is for Europe.

am i right in saying you have actually seen these car for sale or are you just selective :p

For 25k how about an Alfa SZ Zagato - based on the chassis of a racing Alfa 75 with a beautiful (my opinion) Zagato body and interior?

They are super rare, very collectable and you'll probably make money on it when you come to sell it 👍

Its a car people will even stare at in Monaco :sly:

That Alfa's kind of cool, but it looks like a graft between a fisrt-gen Eclipse and a BMW 850i.

I'd have the Porsche 944, because you get to own a Porsche. Having a Mercedes doesn't have the same effect as owning a Porsche IMO.

Having the replica 924 isn't too good either, because you don't own the real version Porsche made. But, no one will really tell it's a replica unless you tell them. People might think it's a Porsche, but you might regret buying it knowing it's not a proper Porsche.

That's totaly my opinion.

I can't see the point in a 924 Carrera GT replica - the genuine article is cheep anyway?!

I think its just a 924 turned into a GT model. It looks like a GT, but I think its just a base 924.

@G.T: Yeah, I've really been wanting a 944 Turbo model as this was the 1st car I ever got behind the wheel of. Just, I can never find one that has interested me.

I think the replica is based on a Porsche, NSX-R. The real 924 GT models do have a 944 look, but like I said, my guess is its a 924 base.

The Alfa Romeo looks extremely stunning. When I first saw that Alfa, I didn't think Alfa Romeo did anything like that as most of the ones I had first seen didn't exactly look sports car, but that has changed.

I will definately look into it.

For the Mercedes, it does seem a bit underpowererd, and if I actually bought one, I would never modify the engine. True, its not exactly Porsche, as the power is just under 300Hp. But its still a fantastic Merc. to have as with a 500 model limit, I wouldn't doubt these little Evo IIs would become big time money makers.

I hope you know what you are getting into f you want a 944 or a 928. the reason they sell dirt cheap (ive seen average 5-6k for a 944 s2 on e-bay) Is that the maintinance on them is horrid :scared:

(btw im selling my 1984 944 for those reasons)

There are 1.000 € 924s in germany, they-re called Spassmobil, so FUN-TRANSPORT, so at least they admit their maintainance is horrid........Too bad cause it's not the cars' fault, it's people thinking they can get away with owning a Porsche so cheaply.......grr.......

A well maintained 924/944 or 928 won't cost you a fortune to maintain, they are pretty much bullit proof as long as they are serviced correctly.

I didn't mean by price. I read around and it says I should re-tension the timeing belt every 15K miles?!?! and when does a car have a wheel berring go out... that never happens but sure does on 944's :nervous:

As a matter of fact, in England, there's a 924 Carrera GT for sale in Autocar magazine.

Porsche 924 Carrera GT, 1981, silver, 1 of 400 ever made, full engine rebuild 25k miles ago. Sat nav & CD player, £9,500.
