God, I cant belive how fast time flies by. It seems like yesterday that the 25th Anniversary GTI was just hitting the streets...

Volkswagen has released images of a new special edition Golf GTI to celebrate the car’s 30th birthday. The ‘30th Edition’ GTI features an additionally 30 horsepower for a total output of 230 horses. Other visual changes, including black wheels.

Niiiice! The blacked-out wheels give the car a pretty bad-ass look, I really like it! Now I wonder if the 30HP bump is easier than what we all think it is, and maybe that VW will keep the extra power under the hood for next year...

Looks good, I like the blacked out wheels but at first glance when I saw it I noticed the unpainted strip around the wheel and It gives me a picture in my head of all the people that paint their alloy wheels with matt black paint from a can and it starts to peel off. I have seen a few nice S15's look like crap after they paint the standard alloys with a spray can.

30hp gain a nice addition.

ROFL....I painted my wheels matte black but I paint them twice a year. You can't just expect the paint to stay on there.

This is the one to be released in NA right, because we didnt get the GTI here until a few years after it was released in Germany (as always). The Drivers Edition GTI (1998) was the 25th Edition, while the 25AE (2003) was the 30AE.

Any word on the 35th AE or is it basically the same?

In 2003, we had the 25th Anniversary GTI on sale in the US... So apprently this is a 2008 model then?

Not so sure about those black rims, but I'd take it anyway.

Speaking of VWs, have you seen how you pick up yours when you buy one at Autostadt in Germany?

Alright, a little more clarification on this vehicle.

vwvortex.com
Volkswagen has shown a 30th Anniversary GTI "study" this past weekend at "Golf Record Day" an enthusiast event in Germany that previously broke the world record for most Golfs in one place - over 5,800.

VW has only released two meager photos but you'll be able to find more in the forum link below. Likewise details on the car are minimal at best and are only available in German at this point, but we do have some information we can pass along.

This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the GTI in Germany. Next year marks the 25th Anniversary of the GTI in the United States so what you see on the German-model 30th Anniversary car will also likely be seen on the U.S. 25th Anniversary GTI coming next year.

Details/changes from the regular GTI include:

- body painted front and rear valances with body painted side skirts
- taillamps borrowed from the new R32
- anniversary badging
- the black 18" wheels shown in the photos are *NOT* the actual production wheels. Rumors say we'll see a 19" BBS looking wheel.
- red stitching on the steering wheel
- red GTI badge on the steering wheel
- Golfball DSG shift knob (connected to a six-speed DSG unit of course)
- 230hp 2.0T FSI
- leather bolstered seats with Interlagos plaid inserts

There are several important things that have come out of this study. The German press has been reporting that Volkswagen would be bumping the horsepower of the 2.0T in the GTI and GLI to 230hp or so. We now have confirmation of that. Along with the horsepower bump there have been rumors that Volkswagen is working on a new electronic torque sensing differential to go with the additional horsepower. The electronic diff is necessary to effectively put power to the ground and is electronic so as to ensure that the differential plays nice with all the various electronic systems (ABS, ESP, ASR, etc., etc.). Volkswagen isn't officially mentioning the differential at this point so we'll have to keep our fingers crossed and wait and see.

The final specification of the U.S. 25th Anniversary GTI is being worked on so color choices, pricing and final features are still up in the air. We'll of course pass along any information VW gives us as we receive it.

This would correct my earlier post meaning that the 1998 DE GTI in the US was the 15th AE GTI and the 20AE GTI was released as a MKIV model in 2003. Anyways, im sure that we will see this exact car in the states, only under the 25AE nameplate.

Yay that means golf replacement soon, in about two years. Time does indeed fly, its as if the 25th A.model came out just the other day.

Hmm, I've really got to liking those black rims, and I think they look better than BBS rims.

I'm looking at GTIs right now (and other small cars like it), so I might take a good look at this Anniversary model.👍

Didn't your household just get a new BMW?!?!
Yes, but the GTO and the M will probably be gone very soon.

The GTO is starting to see its share of problems such as failure to start, and the repairs on the M are estimating way more than we want.

By Dec., both will probably be gone. That or my sister will keep the M.

I like it. Red on black! Fo' shizzle! Too bad they switch to bbs, though I like those a lot too. And it seems yesterday that I was in 5th grade, on that terrible day that shares the name of a popular Porsche. :(

So--is that a question or a comment? Cause I have seen, and what if it falls off? If its a question which I now realize it probably isnt, they have that big carlift thingy.

Oopz double post sorry
:(

*zOMG, itz IMGz!*

Yes. Have you seen those towers in person? I have. ;)

VW's Autostadt is a really neat place for any motorhead. They have several buildings -- one for each VAG marque, and a couple others -- with all sorts of museum-style galleries of the history of the automobile, focusing on VAG's brands, of course. :)

I actually did a short report in my German class about Niedersachsen, the Bundesland that has Wolfsburg and the Autostadt in it. Yeah, I like went on and on about the Autostadt for like 10 minutes, in German...

I can't help it that I love VW so much...

Knowing my luck, i'd go to pick my new VW up, pay my money, then the car would get stuck/jammed on its way down and i'd end up having to go outside to kick the building to free it!

When I first read this, I thought, "My god, think of all the Veyrons and Lamborghinis!"

But I know that's not the case as I remember Lamborghini has an area in Italy for owners. Still, that's very cool. I don't think there's anything like that stateside.

@German, I agree!:indiff:

Those buildings are amazing; space saving definately, but amazing.

...Now it sounds as though the "30th" will come to the US as the "25th"...

Leftlanenews.com
The 30th Anniversary Volkswagen GTI will come to the United States next year, sources say. The stateside release of the car will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the GTI in America in 2007. Accordingly, it will be called the 25th Anniversary Volkswagen GTI here.

That has to be one of the most lazy redesigns of most parts of late lol.

Its a "special eddition" model just as the 337 GTI and 20th Anniversary GTI were in the United States a few years ago. They will probably only send 2000-ish to the United States, and you can bet that they will sell out outrageously fast.
