Yesterday Peugeot has announced a new member for it's GTI family: The Peugeot 308 GTI II

A 1.6 liter THP engine with 250 or 270 BHP. It's official reveal will be at Goodwood this year.

It looks a lot like the Peugeot 308R but just a bit toned down.

Their paint choice is so odd. If you're gonna do it, why make it look like you slapped some vinyl on and didn't do anything else to it?

A sportier bumper wouldn't have gone amiss, either.

It's not quite a 50/50 division between the two tones of color, yes. I commend Peugeot for recreating the paint scheme from the R Concept, but I'm not quite sure if it worked the way they intended.

Regardless, this car has quite the potential to be a sleeper; the more powerful engines and Peugeot Sport's background could make this a very good-handling car in many aspects, while having a sporty character. Yes, it seems to be a tad bit too subtle, and could almost be confused with lower-ranked GT version. If you keep away from the two-tone paint, that is. However, it already sounds a lot better than the disgrace that Peugeot called a 308 GTI when that number first came out, so I am already happy with that. Now it's only a matter of getting the handling portion right...
 
I agree that the bodykit could have been a bit more muscular. The 2 tone color appears on their more sportier models. Normal colors should be available though.

Well, there is always the possibility that Peugeot could be working on a R version for the 308, which would explain the lack of more sporty aspects within the bodykit... As for the colors, I'd stick to normal ones, I'm sure a car like this would look better without the two-tone paint. Just red or black, not both at the same time.
 
This generation 30X has been the best made Peugeot I have ever came across and a True Golf Rival, maybe the brand is finally getting how to make good cars again.

I rented a 308 to drive to Le Mans in, really was surprised by it... shame it's just so desperately ugly!

The 308? This newer 308, ugly? I personally think that the old 308 is far uglier and far less reliable. Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, in no way I'm ignoring it.
 
If Citroën could replace their aging C4 with a current 308 based one already I would be all over it.

In Oz for some reason they have a 6 year Unlimited KM warranty to Peugeots 3 year 100km, plus Citroëns tend to be designed properly.

Making the 208 GTI in 3 door only was another missed opportunity imo as well.

Edit: No I'm mistaken. I'd assumed the conservative styling of the 308 meant it and the C4 were common architecture.

No there not, the C4 is based on the last Gen 308.

The C4 is usually a couple years behind the 30X Platform when it gets updated.

The last Gen C4 used the 307 Platform 3 years after it was released, and 2 years after the 308 came out after it.

A new 20x GTI I can believe in, but a 10x GTI? Will Peugeot actually make a car like that? As far as I can see, the 108 isn't really a car aimed at sporty crowds...

Next 20x GTi is at least 208s replacement away, so I wouldn't wait for one yet, the current one is likely to get an upgrade before that happens. When talking about a sport version of the 108, you need to remember that there's a Toyota and a Citroen using the exactly same platform, so if either of those get a sports version (likely the Aygo, but the C1 isn't absolutely impossible either), it won't take long for 108 to get one, it's also worthy to point out that there is some pressure for the next new micro hot hatch, as the Up GT still hasn't reached the market (it's starting to look like might never do though) and the new Renault Twingo RS hasn't reached the production yet.

So, in a way, whoever releases a new hot micro car first may push Peugeot to built a 108 GTI? Unless it's Peugeot the one to start that trend, that is. And I personally don't envision Toyota releasing a sport Aygo, but Citroen just might do that with the C1. Still, one has to wait to see how will that story turn out. As for the next 20x GTI, first the 208's new update needs to end production so that a new 20x model appears. Then we can talk about more properly about a new 20x GTI.

Although it doesn't seem extremely likely, Toyota is still trying to make the Aygo more youth oriented model with rather good results, and a hot hatch could easily be a logical next step for them.

Could be. The Aygo is the boldest of the "Mini Brothers" (The C1, 108 and Aygo trio), so making a hot Aygo would be a possibility. It's not as female market-oriented as the 108, and it is bolder than the C1... The chance is there for Toyota to achieve first, yes.

What I wouldn't mind seeing though is if Peugeot brought back the Lightweight Rallye models again.

208 GTI Rallye and 308 GTI Rallye would be epic.

Despite the fact it's on a shared platform with another manufacturer, PSA can still decide which engines and trim levels they give the car, and considering that unlike Toyota they're already offering a higher performance version of the car, I definitely wouldn't completely rule the option of an even higher performance version out.
 
Peugeot has never warmed my blood the way Renault or Citroen do.

B: Don't underestimate the market for cars; there's always someone willing to pay that money for an ultra hot - hatch...
