What do all of you think about this update announced regarding up-scaling 360 content to 1080p?

I don't care at the moment as my monitor will only display up to 720p (1280x1024 19" lcd) There's very few HDTVs that support 1080p at the moment, and even fewer people own one. There's not a great difference between 1080i and 1080p anyway, but more power to 'em.

And to take real advantage of this you have to have a 1080p tv that will take it over component right since the 360 has no hdmi right?

I don't have an HDTV. I don't care really much, cause you have to buy a really expensive TV for it... >_>

Anyone have watched some video of the TGS06?

Those RPG's presented there are quite scary. They might boost sell in japan by a lot.

There is a noticeable difference. with 1080p theres no flickering jumpimg pixels with motion or blury pixels to lessin the flicker. 1080p is crisp clear with no motion flicker.

If you can you can try using a 480i mode with 360 then swtich to 480p and back to 480i, there is a differense. Same with Tekken 5, very noticeable.

Just what I was going to say.
Would you rather a good looking game that isn't worth playing? Since playstation 2 and Xbox I have notice games becoming more attractive but lacking in gameplay, this isn't true for all but still that fact remains, I can live with 720p so long as the game play is up to standard.

I was HD sceptic, but since getting a 720p HD Philips, I've seen the light. Trying to play GT afterwards was quite a shock, almost longed for my old 21" CRT telly. I say almost, 32" of widescreen can change a man's feelings quite a lot!

What does, resolution have to do with the actual graphics? I can run Doom 2 at 2500x1550, doesnt make it look good.

Notice how I said "actual" graphics, you know, textures, shader effects polygons, normal maps. I responded to his responce to what I said. Hes talking about gameplay not matching graphics. Resolution is an after thought to actual graphics. Art direction, art style and talent having nothing to do with how many pixels are being rendered. Thats my point.

Texture, and other affects are all well and good, but I am saying, if you are the type of person who would rather have good texture with horrible gameplay and story line, then by all means enjoy your 1080p.

Edit: A lot of companies focus on graphics while their storyline suffers.

1080p output will be very useful for people with 1080p TV that are capable of 1080p input (most new 1080p rear projection tv's are like Samsung HLS dlp and Sony A2000) because of less scaling and steps. Instead of having to go 720p (360 game) -> 1080i (upscale in 360) -> 1080p (deinterlace by TV), it'll just be 720p (360 game) -> 1080p (upscale in 360), will probably make it a tad sharper and more flicker-free.

Better to have it than to not have it. Now there could also be games that are rendered at 1080p, but I doubt we'll see those comign any time soon, and if such a game does come out, it'll probably have lesser graphics (what I mean is graphic detail will be lower than a game at 720p, but due to 1080p it'll be sharper and clearer). As far as I know, neither 360 nor PS3 are capable of rendering graphically-intensive games at 1080p such as PGR3 or Oblivion. My own PC which is very powerful (Core 2 Duo, X1900XT) struggles to run Oblivion at 1920x1200.

I see your point. You are not getting that resolution has little to do with graphics or gameplay. A game with perfect gameplay can have awful graphics and still run at the highest possible resolution.

Thats what you said.

You quoted me when all I did was explain the difference.

Resolution does not make or break a game. Overall graphics and gameplay do.
