Thought this needed its own thread so everyone can see it.

I knew this would happen but did not expect it to be this serious.

Buying FF-XIII is not a lock for me anymore, not sure if I should pay $60 for a half you know what game that lost half its content because it had to be dumbed down for an inferior system.

Im not going to bother trying to find the video, but youtube's mrjiggaman already posted a podcast from IGN some time ago where they noted they attended a developer conference that asked the developers to cut content out of games to fit them on DVD discs.

FF-XIII will be on 3 DVDs on the 360, but a dual layered blu-ray disc is equalled to 6 DVDs

It turns out there once were many more labyrinthine paths and dungeons in Final Fantasy XIII, but they got cut. An interview (in Japanese) over at FF-Reunion with art director Isamu Kamikokuryou ("No you!" to his friends) has him saying that the team removed enough extra locations from the title to make up a whole other game entirely.

Sections cut include a secret base for Snow's hero squad, a character's home that included a park, and even a zoo inside one of the game's amusement park areas. This is all more impressive when you consider that Square Enix is expecting to need three DVDs to hold everything that's still in the Xbox 360 version of the game. But FFXIII completists, don't worry too much -- we're sure some of that content will appear sometime during the game's 10-year cycle.

Nothing in that article says that the game had sections cut because the game was on the 360. Its possible that that is the reason, but it is altogether more likely that stuff was cut from the game because it wasn't very good or disrupted the flow of the game. In any case, it is impossible to draw a conclusion based on the information we have.

There's been some animated discussion on this matter recently on GameFAQs. Someone posted a link to a humorous photo showing what the full version of the game would have looked like on the 360, had it not been cut to fit on three DVDs.

 That is hilarious.

hahaha that photo is hilarious. That does suck to have to remove things from a game. Who really cares if it's 3-4 discs? I'm sure it costs them more to produce/package a game that size, so it's more likely a cost issue. It's not like your switching from 1 disc walking around a map, and then when you get into a battle you swap to another disc....I wouldn't care if the game was 10 discs long as long as it was well made, and didn't have to change the disc out every 15 mins. :)👍

I heard this happened to GTA 4 also, except instead of putting it on other discs for XBoX, they cut it for everybody. Thanks Microsoft, for paying off another company and having everyone have to suffer for that.

Then again its probably something made up.
