I was at the Sony store in NYC and they had a room set up for GT5. It had five racing cockpits with DFGT's and Bravia monitors with three of them running in 3D. It took a few laps to get used to but overall I was impressed especially when running in the rain. I think its a cool feature and now I'm tempted to start looking into 3D TV's but would like to know how it would be to play for hours on end before taking the plunge. Is anyone racing exclusively in 3D and do you think its better then a multi screen setup?

I really want to try multi-screen setup, so you can move your head around to see the track, instead of the buggy PS eye, which only works on time trial. 3D is really great and immersive, though playing endurance races, i suggest regular breaks, because if your not used to it, wearing those glasses are a pain, and sometimes will hurt your eyes(at least in my case). The best would be 3D multi-screen.

Just to add, taking a cruise or even racing with no hud, and pure 3D with surround sound on GT5, is the best car driving expierence 2nd only to the real thing.

There both stupid, 3D is a gimmick i hope goes away and multiscreen is just pointless.

And you've probably never tried 3D either. I've played several games in 3D for several hours in a row. As said before: you have to get used to it, but after a while you don't want to go back to 2D anymore. I think you better get used to it cause 3D will only get better and better. IMHO it is kinda like the transition from B&W to color TV. In fact, by the time my daughters become adults (about 15 years from now), 3D will probably be as common as 2D is right now.

I've been playing computer games for almost 30 years. Last night I got my 3 screen setup working and can honestly say that driving a car around Le Mans at night in cockpit view was the single greatest experience of my gaming life. A multi screen set up adds an unbelievable amount to the experience. Pointless? You have no idea.

To answer the OP. Not tried 3D but from what I've read its a pretty cool experience. However, the extra immersion that a multiscreen setup gives is truly astounding and I feel this would trump 3D everyday of the week. I implore anyone who has the means to give it a go. It's remarkable.

Gimmick you say, absolute nonsense Multiscreen totally changes the games immersion and entertainment.
Sense of speed and position on the track are greatly enchanced as are the replays and general visuals.
Also the ability to adapt your FOV and gain a personal taste within cockpit mode is excellent.

Although its not complete yet, your welcome to read part of the guide in my sig showing the example of "Cockpit Mode & Mirrors."

Not only does it look good but it has beeen implemented much better with more options than how FM3 used Multiscreens as well.

I cannot confirm 3D to being much of an advantage in immersion over say entertainment value as have not tried it. However in 3D the game is limited to 30 FPS which isnt so good. For 3D I would recommend anyone consider a new adapter called the "Optoma 3DXL" for a good but budget entry into 3D and suitable with various projectors. Both available for approx £650 upwards. I had considered this before the 1.06 update.

Having triple screens now, I dont think 3D would be better as it only enchances a 2D single screen experience to 3D but its different in its own way.

I've tried 3d and multiscreen, but not 3d multiscreen :)

Multiscreen I'll take over 3d any day.. the immersion factor is far greater imho. The drop in resolution for 3d is simply too much in a video game like this. the effects were good, but the loss of resolution wouldn't swing me to 3d.. Now if it was 3x1080P in 3d @60fps then .. I'd be spending like mad!!

But that's not going to happen with this game on this console..afaik.

Before Patch 1.06 came out for Multiscreen I had tried 2 different 3D TV's with GT5. 3D looks cool at first but it runs at a reduced resolution (720P), plus after racing for a few hours I was getting headaches.

The Sony 40HX800 LCD TV I tried first had noticeable crosstalk and ghosting in 3D mode for me with GT5 and if you tilted your head at all the 3D effect was greatly diminished. (I returned this set after a week and waited for the 42" Panasonic 3D Plasma to go on sale).

Panasonic 42GT25 had excellent 3D effect and no noticeable crosstalk, but I could definitely see Green and red phosphor trails that bothered me as well as my close viewing distance to such a large screen shows all of the graphical anomolies.

I returned the Panasonic 3D Plasma and bought another PS3 for GT5 multiscreen as soon as the patch came out and have never looked back! (I had already invested in Triple display setup for XBOX and PC)

GT5 with Multiscreen is GLORIUS and very immersive, It's definitely a better investment than 3D for my preferences.

the ability to see all mirrors at once is worth having three monitors alone imo.........but not worth having three PS3!!

I agree!

I thought about going the 3D route but decided against it possible vision issues playing the game for extended times

I am far more interested in multiscreen than 3D... both the increased fov as well as the fact that parts of your view angle apporpriately to give a feeling of things to the side of you moving quickly seems very important.

I wouldn't say no to 3D but my dream setup would be some kind of fully encasing dome or sphere where you could actually look over your shoulder to check your blind spot and rely on periphery to know how close you are to a car on a different line as you corner.

With 3 screens is amazing immersion, but imagine this awesome madness, just to push the boundaries: 6 screen setup!

3 Front screens and the 3 screens for quickly glancing the back! Oh the possibilities!!!

Of course, it would be overkill, but fun overkill. ^^ (6 Playstation 3's and 6 Screens, heh).

I'd go for multiscreen over 3D everytime. I've always found 3D to be pretty underwhelming. It's just a shame that you must have three PS3s to have a good multiscreen setup, which is a pretty big financial investment for what you get.

Atleast with a pc, multiscreen is considerably cheaper, and coupled with the additional features a pc provides - offers more bang for your buck.

I'd rather have a 3 screen multi-screen setup any day. Not sure how I would though considering I use a 52" main screen and I wouldn't want to go smaller than that.. two other 52" screens would be to big.

Id go for multiscreen too... but the best idea; multiscreen 3D...

Just imagine it...

Realism. It would be like holographic, coming from everywhere!

I'd agree, 3 screens beats 3D...3D is nice, I have 54" of the best but there's only the extra depth, not 200% more view that 3 screens give

I like the multiscreen thing. I wonder how awesome it would be like if GT5 ran on Alienware's Curved monitor.

What size are those tvs/monitors.

I was setting up a theater room and getting a projector, but now that GT5 has Mutli screen I think I may lean in that direction.

Can anyone recommend good monitors/ tvs for multiscreen?

i play GT5 in 3D and its amazing.. loving every second of it only thing that sucks is when batteries run out in glasses. Luckily i have 4 pairs of glasses :)

I have a 63" HD 3D set and tried GT5 in 3D and was not crazy about it. I love watching 3D movies, if you never watched a 3D movie you have to try it. To the poster who says 3D is a gimmick he doesn't know what he's talking about.

The triple screen looks amazing, we have 4 PS3's in the house and 3 copies of GT5. Just a matter of time and I'll get a 3 screen set up, looks awesome.

I bought the Panasonic AE2000 Projector when it released for GT-HD among all the 1080p Hype.
Projectors are good, dont get me wrong and I think particulary a projector in 3D would give much better effect of the 3D experience.

I use 24" iiyama 2407HDS they are not perfect by any means but affordable costing now approx £150 each. Your best to search for reviews on monitors that offer good "black levels", have as little as possible "light bleeding", have good "Viewing Angles" and lastly have small frame/borders. Also try to stick to a 1080p panel in 16:9 to avoid any scaling.

Depends on your budget and then if you want size over quality.
It is easy to understand why people want much larger screens to do this as bigger is more impressive however Ive tried before to highlight on the forums here that "Seating Position" and "Distance To The Screen" are "Vital" to getting proper alignment between screens. I dont want 3x big screens that are so close you only see approx 1.3 screens at a time and then have to continually pan your head left and right. If you have this you will totally loose imho the point of adjusting the ingame FOV to allow mirrors to be inview in your peripheral but then allow yourself to use your lesser angle binocular vision to focus on them yet not have to turn your whole head to do so.
