With recent update it became possible to go for 3 or 5 monitors having 3 or 5 ps3s. I wonder if PD want to issue a new patch where 2, 3, 4 or 5 ps3s are working on a SINGLE image so that we can achieve a crazy amount of resolution and anti aliasing. In fact PD were able to achieve 4k resolution and 240 fps on a prologue from 4 ps3s! I am good to go with 1080p and awesome shaddows - I think 2 ps3s can handle it perfectly.

Would not it be cool to have that feature? It could be that sony wont need to invest crazy amount of money into ps4 development, just pairing 2 or 3 ps3s through lan will do for it. And it will cost much cheaper to upgrade to additional ps3 rather than shelling out 800-1000$ for a new ps4.

So what you think?

Would you need 4 copies of every game for that also? Clustering ability over network would require a lot of memory resources outside of those available for normal operation of the game from disc.

PD did show a tech demo of 3x (or 4?) PS3s a while back being able to run GT5 in QHD (3840x2160) so anything is possible...

I just think it is more likely PS4 will be a multiple core cell processor architecture to maintain the backwards compatibility going forward and the processor design scales very well, so no point to re-engineer an already good piece of work.

If you look at that chart though it's not really 240fps, it's 4 streams of 60fps being interpolated which is completely different, because the difference between frame 29 and frame 30 of 240 during a given second may only be the top left quarter of the image was updated while the other three corners remained static.

Cmon man....Do you really think they will do this for such a small market? They cant even if they wanted to, only about 1 in every 1000000 ps3 owners actually have 5 ps3s and the equipment needed, so they will be narrowing their market by 1 in 1000000 if they do this as an exclusive, or did you mean in adition to multu monitor support? Sure they could if they felt like it, thought it would require a purose built monitor.

This is one of the best suggestions I have heard. They did the multi-monitor thing for the same "small market" and in fact you need less kit (only 1 tv) to do this.

Personally I have 6 PS3's, 6 flat panel TV's and 3 copies of Gran Turismo around the house so for me it would be fantastic if they did this.

I think also many homes with kids will have 3 or more PS3's so the market may be bigger than expected (although playing time may be an issue if your kids want their PS3's back LOL).

@ddl8: Do you mean that 2 or more PS3's will share the computing responsibilities through LAN and output it onto one monitor?

The limitation though is that in commercial demos 4 ps3's are connected directly to the screen so you would need some kind of HDMI "hub" where 4 hdmi signals are combined to a single finished signal that then goes to the screen.

That might be pricey.

Why the hell would you have six PS3s? That's just a massive waste of money if you ask me.

Depends how much disposable income you have I suppose :)

I think you have to connect ps3 through the lan and use only 1 hdmi but I might be wrong, PD already did it with 4 ps3 and one monitor so...

I would very welcome an option to stack on a LAN two or more PS3 to have better graphics and possibily more cars on a single monitor. I think I would also find this more useful (not to mention cheaper) than the multimonitor option and definitely seriously consider it.

If I had enough disposable income so that I could have six PS3s, I would only get the one PS3 and give the rest of the money to charity.

Market doesn't exist because now its of no use to buy more than 1 ps3 unless you have kids who can not share one ps3. But market will exist if there gonna be a killer application like gran turismo or any other aaa game!

5 ps3 i guess is too much, but 2 is ok.

Hmmm.... Ethics...

These times probably somewhat rare, methinks.

Imagine some of the standards in that resolution.

I know it's off topic, but how do you know he isn't already giving large sums of money to charity? I haven't seen any studies that correlate number of ps3s to lack of charitable giving.

On topic, if this were possible I'd pick-up a second ps3 today. Until then, I'm saving for my triple screen set-up.

Edit: I don't think PS4 will cost $800-1000. i think Sony learned from the PS3 launch to not outprice the market, at least I hope. I also think/hope it will be 4 years or so before PS4 is launched.

We've got a few years at least till PS4.

But consider that 4X PS3s = $1200 or so, plus 3X HDTVs = $2K-3K or so (for screens large enough to make this effort worthwhile)... Then you'll want the full race seat, Thrustmaster, etc. = $1200 (cause you sure as hell better not be using just a DS3 with that setup)...

So now you've dropped $5K or more on a gaming rig and turned your living room into an altar for worshipping Kaz and PDI. But don't worry, when your wife leaves you, I'm sure all the chicks will find this all incredibly sexy.
