ok i'm pretty much done with the beginner series thing, and i wanna buy a new high performance car thats from 40 - 60K. i dunno whether i should buy the Skyline R34 GT-R, Supra RZ, RX-7 RZ, 3000GT VR-4, or the Vette Z06. if anyone has any suggestions other than those cars....feel free to tell me. Thanks

This has been done to death. Check the "Spot Races" area. Several of us have done comps with a limited number of credits available. You'll get a wide cross view of what we used.
Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

Out of those cars, I'd take the RX-7 without question, with the Vette a close second. I'd pass on all the others.

Heh, I got a PM from somebody, extolling the virtues of the R34 and the Supra, and calling the Z06 "a waste of money".
I just love other people's preconceived notions, don't you?

Tulikettu, i remember seeing your review, and i searched all over for it, but i completely forgot what you called it.... that helped a lot cuz i was leaning towards the RX-7 in the first place and that justifies my choice...thanks a lot everyone

I think its funnier that they PMed you

Why is it that Duke always gets the debate PM's and I get the wild ravings of lunatics?

Yes, of the choices listed above, I'd certainly lean towards the RX-7. Very capable car, and can hanlde most of the hp you throw at it.

It just doesn't do it for me. I find the 'Vette has the Skyline's grunt and much better handling, and the RX-7 has the precision and finesse that the other three cars all lack.

I tried all 4 of those cars in a budget-build competition at Apricot Hill. At nearly full build, the RX-7 was the best of that group, with the 'Vette a close second, but somewhat harder to drive. The Supra was capable of astonishing speeds but mustered lousy lap times because it couldn't handle its own power. The Skyline was a little more stable than the Supra, but only a little quicker around the course. Neither of them were in the same league as the 'Vette and the RX-7, by several seconds/lap.

I don't know if I could handle it. I am of the mind set that there is no contest between the supra/skyline vs vette/rx7 comparison. Vette and RX7 take the win easily.

As for picking beyond that point, I think it is a question of driver. If the max power of the vette has a major difference with the rx7, then my statements will be taken somewhat out of context, however...

Assuming both vette and rx7 are capable of roughly 690-810 hp, I would say the vette is better for the beginner and the rx7 is better for the veteran. The vette is more stable and has a more solid feel. The rx7 is without a doubt fast as hell, and if you can run it without running into trouble, it can be a better car.

Hey wait? :odd:

Isn't the tuscan only about this much money. What 40-60K, or is the tuscan 70 something.

Anyway, the vette is a top competitor amongst the true road cars. But at certain levels, the rx7 may be a better car. I guess it comes down to tuning level... if you're going to max out the car, buy a vette. If you're going to modify the to the 500-600 hp level, take the rx7. At 500hp the rx7 is a hard one to beat.

But you're both staying away from the Skyline? Any special reason?

Also, in budget based comps, the Skyline is just too expensive a car to start with, until you hit the 150K limit comps. Another good "bang for the buck" candidate is the Camaro SS. Once you tame the rear end, and tighten up the gearbox, it can be quite formidable.
Of all the "price limit comps" I've been in. The RX-7, Camaro, and the EVO7 have all proven to be worthy performers. I tend to lean toward the rear drive platforms though. The EVO, while very quick, is not terribly fast on the top end (It tops out halfway past the pits on the front straigt at Midfield) with stock gears. It is also almost too stable. It doesn't like to make abrupt directional changes.
