As per the title. It's been a very long time since I had a surround sound system and the tech has changed and everything seems to be Dolby Atmos. I've no audiophile at all.
Basically looking for a soundbar/surround sound setup, must be wireless and probably 5.1. Uses:

PS5 gaming and sim racing for 90% of the time
Netflix/Prime video/movies the other 10%, most of which using the apps on PS5

My TV supports 4k with VRR and 120Hz, so the system must support that in order to pass through from PS5 to TV, at least I assume that's how it has to be hooked up. Or am I supposed to hook the sound system up to TV via HDMI and the PS5 on a separate HDMI socket?
The tv is a Sony X90J with 2x HDMI 2.1 supporting VRR 120Hz and eARC if that is of any relevance.

Not looking for best in the world, just more bass and a serviceable surround sound experience so I can hear cars behind me and gunfire etc watching Apocalypse Now. I used to have a fairly cheap Sony system but it was ancient and only supported optical input which the PS5 doesn't have.

Thanks

I have a X8500H from sony and and Samsung sound bar and I'm very pleased with it. Model is Samsung HW-Q990D. And you need to put that on the e-arc hdmi port 3 and your ps5 to the 4th. Then on your tv select home cinema instead of speaker and you should be set (term might wary a bit as I'm translating from french). You can take the lower model, the 7.1 one if you fancy but I wouldnt go lower. And a subwoofer is super important as well.

With eARC you don’t need to do it like this…

PS5 -> Soundbar -> TV

You can do…

PS5 -> TV -> Soundbar

As eARC will pass through your audio no problem. It’s how I have it set up on my system.

I run my Oppo 205, Apple TV via my Soundbar (Senheiser Ambeo) into my TV eARC HDMI and then my PS5 into the TV with audio pass through to the Soundbar. This way I can take advantage of the VRR & 120 on the PS5. Plus I can also run a separate image calibration settings on the TV in Game Mode Specific for the PS5.

The Oppo and Apple TV then Share a Movie Calibration on the TV.

Any Broadcast image in SD or HD via the TVs aerial connection then can have its own Calibration too to try and smooth out the macro-blocking etc.

Oh thats a relief. It means I don't have to pay thru the nose for a soundbar which supports 4k 120Hz.
I've decided on this one after hours of research, it punches way above its weight and it seems fine for what I want atm
