Well, I seem to have a growing interest in 60's rock music. There is just one small problem. How do I find all the "hits" of that period? There were a thousand 'one-hit-wonders' at that time and very few artists that could boast a number of hits.

Can anyone suggest a good resource of 60's hits? Is there some awesome compilation floating around with a nice selection of that era's music?

'elp!

Thanks Shannon 👍 Looks like a very good resource to begin my investigations :)

edit: that is a very indepth resource - Now if I only knew what everything sounded like..

Also, if you want more, find sites that list all past hits of every era. There are some sites around that list the top 10 of every week for every year back to around the 60's. If you want me to do a search, just say so.

If you wanted to sample some MP3s, AltaVista can provide you with some. Just click on MP3, then enter what band catches your fancy.

Thanks Bluto ;) Didnt know about altavista giving snippits of songs...

Believe it or not, the catalyst behind all this is the TV show "American Dreams" :scared:

Once you find a band you like go to allmusic.com and search for your the artist. This site is great for complete discography's, mp3 samples, reviews, and in-depth artist information. The 60's was a great era and my favorite artist of this time was Jimi Hendrix.

I love allmusic. I'm glad to see someone knows about it other than me. I think it's the best music website out there. I kind of use it for my "secret music weapon." If such a thing makes any sense...

 That site is pretty awesome. Thanks iceman 👍

edit: Boo! My proxy server wont let me listen to the mp3's. Lousy work compy's :grumpy:

Some 60s music is pretty good, others are not. I used to listen to oldies with my dad in the car and sometimes on my own at home. The nice thing about 60s music is there was harminoy, but more so in the 50s, I'd say. Harmony of singer and instruments is an alien concept to many of today's recording "artists."
