i just won the 66 jaguar and was thankful but suprised to see it has front and rear downforce adjustments
with no obvious wings etc, would this car have had downforce adjustments in real life?

No, this car doesn't have any wings on it because it was designed before downforce was properly understood. It was only just being used in Formula 1 at the time and the wings used were very crude.

Any of the vintage race car in game barring 2J and stuff are likely to have next to no downforce, if not outright making lift....MK IV GT40 is listed to make ~400+lb of lift at 200mph...

Wait, are we talking about the Jaguar XJ13 Race Car ‘66?

As in this:

This isn't a Formula One car and was never used as one. In fact, only one was ever produced, intended for Le Mans, and was never even raced there. Jaguar had no involvement in Formula One in 1966 at all.

Here's a classic 1966 F1 car:

EDIT:
I might have misread you. You could have been meaning that aerodynamics like wings were used in F1 at the time, and not meaning that the Jaguar was used. If so, then... my bad.

I wish that one day we can have all this historic cars in the game. And Premium of course. ...

Thats what i meant. The F1 cars of the time basically had thin pieces of metal suspended on metal poles. Le Mans cars didn't adopt wings until a bit later.
The 330 P4 and the Ford MKIV have rear spoilers, but not actual wings.

Well how about weights? Don't they help keeping the car on the road?

You mean ballast? Ballast can be used to balance handling (e.g. Old Porsche 911's had lead stuffed into their front bumpers in an atempt to get more front end grip). As far as i know ballast isn't present in GT5, perhaps the unrealistic aerodynamic tuning is to replicate the effect of moving the ballast around?

I love this car, but as much downforce as a modern GT car? Nonsense.

This car was designed with minimum drag in mind, to the best of their understanding at the time. I'd bet that if you put it in a wind tunnel it would make lift front and rear.

I figure it doesn't have any of equipped devices for adjustment of downforce like modern vehicles have, for its oldness as a car.

Yeah that Jag Died.. They made one, and they wrecked one. What exists today, was made from old leftover parts from 40 years ago.

If it made any downforce it would be minimal, at best.

Except that it was actually rebuilt in 1971 (72?). So more like, made from leftover parts from 5 years ago. :)
I could always be wrong though.

I don't know about the Jaguar, but the Ford GT MKIV had an adjustable lip on the tail that produced a slight amount if downforce- Dan Gurney talks about how they adjusted it to ensure that they could take the Mulsanne kink flat without losing too much top-end.

Here's the atricle:Dan Gurney at Le Mans 1967

You can see the lip quite clearly in this pic:

Sorry, but I believe that ballast is in the game. You can add weight and move it around depending how much you want on the front or back. Pretty sure!

But that other post is a year old mate, there was no ballast in game at that time.

Haha! Yeah I see that now. Then why are we discussing a 1 year old question? A lot has changed during the year since release of GT5!

I'm done with this discussion.

In 1966 there were no advertised uses of downforce in F1. That began in 1968 in F1. In Can-Am it began as ealy as 1964. It was also used in LeMans racing cars. The Cobra Roadster vs the Cobra Daytona Coupe in 1965.

In 1965 Jim Hall designed his Chaparrel 2C which had an articulating wing.

But F1 was a latecomer to downforce and the use of wings.
