That's completely ridiculous. The odds of ANY car surviving thirty years in complete factory-spec condition is diabolically low... typical government move. I sincerely hope the bureaucrats who refuse cars like that end up on the other side of the fence one day.

There's no logical explanation for this.

I saw this earlier on Corvette Online's FB page. It Sounds like they've got some overly-strict rules when it comes to that type of thing in Australia.

^ROFL...

Here you have some play when it comes to reg. a vintage car, In germany all that is on the car must have been available during that time the car was produced to get a vintage plate. That leaves a lot of modification to play with.
This is beyond ridiculous

So what's the rules down there in Australia? I know the best car you can drive before you're 18 is an NA V6, but what's this? You can't register an imported car if it's been repainted?

Makes since to me. If he's trying to register it as a "Historical" or "Vintage" car, I'm sure there are some places that won't let you register a car that has after-market stripes because, by adding the stripes, the car is no longer a true vintage car. Even if it's a restoration, to register it as a classic, I would assume most things have to be stock.

It's different here in the states. You can register a car for be classic over 22-25 years old original or restored or even a few entire rebuilds. However the year varies by state.

He can register the car under a different class but it would be much more expensive so he is attempting to register it under the historical regulations which require the car to be almost dead original in every way, including paint.

Sure you can, I have a modified imported car right now and my father used to import standard and modified American cars for a living. The difference here is this guy doesn't want to go through the usual channels and is going for a Historic registration which requires the car to be pretty much how it came out of the factory. Much easier to import and legalise cars here than in the US. ;)
