Aston Martin is considering building a new range-topping supercar to rival the Mercedes SLR, and, to a lesser extent, the Bugatti Veyron, according to U.K. magazine AutoExpress. The high-performance coupe is codenamed DBX, the report claims.

The DBX would offer a top speed in excess of 205 mph, and a zero to sixty time in the mid-three-second range. Power would likely come from a 700 horsepower 6.0-liter V12 engine.

The DBX would be a spiritual successor to the 1986 Aston Martin Zagato, which was created to reach 300km/h (186mph). The DBX will use a version of Aston's versatile vertical horizontal (VH) aluminum/composite platform, with technology from the new DBS sports car.

The car would likely be priced against the $450,000 Mercedes SLR.

Should be awsome. I fear the design might be a bit more limited, seeing as the current vertical-fronts don't seem very aerodynamic... At least they're not making a 'Veyron-Beater', but rather a competing hypercar - and hopefully, not in the terms of topspeed, but in the looks-department, where, IMO, the Veyron lacked a bit. Can't wait for a Speed 12 Vs. Veyron Vs. DBX shootout...

sounds great :D i hope they be a bit more original in the design! dont want it to just look like a variation of the db9 like every model has been since :|

Sounds great indeed but let's hope the Aston guys don't make a horrible looking version out of the AMV8 or DB9, although that's hard to accomplish. Anyway, sounds cool but I just hope that car won't be too heavy like all the other Astons 👍

Wouldn't this technically be a follow up to the V8 Vantage V600 and Vanquish?
Lets hope when it comes out that it is a new design and not a kitted DB9 like the one in Casino Royale was.
Also, could this just be the all-but-confirmed DBS that was designed to replace the Vanquish?

About the follow-up part, I'm not too sure as I'm not overly familiar with AM's history - I know what they told me, it's that the Zagato was made as a supercar designed to break 300KM/h. Now, I'm not assuming the 'DBX' will be designed for top-speed purposes, since 700HP will probably not be sufficient for breaking 400Km/h, but it'll be a very speedy Aston.

And about the DBS/James Bond thingy: I always understood that the car in Casino Royale was the DBS, and was supposed to be a one-off. I seriously hope they'll make a limited-production edition of it, and leave it, since you can't make more than 5 cars which look the very same.

The car in Casino Royale was the DBS, the DBS was a model variation of the DB9, thats why it looked like a kitted up DB9. Comparng the DB9 and DBS is like comparing a Mercedes CLK to and AMG version of the same car, they're the same model different states of tune ;).

This car will more than likely not compete directly with the Veyron on paper, it'll probably be far more like the SLR.

Indeed, as the article tells, it'll compete mainly with the SLR, and to a lesser extent with the Veyron. And against the SLR, that should be a battle. I assume it'll be heavy, and with a high-displacement engine, both should be the ultimate bahn-cruisers. With added beauty on the Aston's side.
