How about that looooong title? :sly:

Since math rock usually gets mixed into the whole emo thing, I decided to put the two in one thread.

So to start... some obvious ones and then some not-so-obvious ones.

Algernon Cadwallader

American Football

(^Everyone who follows the scene pretty much knows this song. Basically the prototype for revival bands.)
Cap'n Jazz
(^Also a classic.)
Rooftops
The Littlest Viking

Don Caballero

(Legends in math rock basically.)

As much as I'd like to post every big band in the scene, I'm pretty sure it would take me hours to put up all the links, haha. But yeah, Jets to Brazil for sure...

And The Promise Ring, and Braid, and Texas Is The Reason, and Snowing, and... :P

I've been trying to get into a bit of emo for the last year or so. I Really enjoy Cap'n Jazz, evident in my new username (just a few days ago I ordered a Cap'n Jazz t-shirt too!) I've been meaning to get into Snowing but I keep putting it aside, what I've heard of theirs is really enjoyable though. I'm a big Conor Oberst fan, so naturally I'm a fan of his and Tim Kasher's early band Commander Venus. I just wish emo wasn't commonly associated with "depressed" scenerster kids because some emo bands truly are great.

Agree with everything you've mentioned so far, aside from The Promise Ring who I've never been able to get into.

There are a few new bands out bringing a bit of the old sound back, such as Daytrader and Stay Ahead of the Weather.
