Hey guys, this my first post. So far have read lots of great stuff on the boards!
Im at 25% complete, working on the professional races, Bspec ~5000 pts with 110 miles.

Anyways yes there is a question here, I was wondering if anyone else came across this....

In the Japanese 80s festival on the Tsukuba race I noticed a 91 Toyota Celica GT-R (ST 183 4WS) in the lineup of competitors.... I thought it was only cars from '80 to '89.

Also, is it common place for opponents to change to less difficult ones if you keep re entering a race. In the last race of the 80s festival i kept blowing one corner and hitting the sand after being in the lead for a good while (from being stupid i guess). In any case the races were 68 aspec points and i know i could win cause i always got the lead and just messed up a corner either on the first or 2nd lap. Well after like 5 times of restarting and then coming back the race was down to 44 points. I dont care about the points, i just wanted the satisfaction of beating the RX-7 which happed to be replaced by a sylvia. Leaving and coming back 3 times didnt bring back the RX either. I check again when next i play.

And one last question/point. Anyone upgrade a car for a race and then have the aspec points for the race go up. Added sport brakes, racing chip and changed camber and ride height settings on a 80s (cant remember the year) 300Z for the Special stage rt 5 in the same 80s festival. I didnt want to add too much power cuz the first race in series was doable stock.

Sorry for the long winded post.

Thanks guys :)

If you upgrade a car, you won't get more A-spec points, at least, if it's normal.:p

When I did the Japanese 80s festival, I had a 90 or 91 car against me too. That gave me hope for the Japanese 90s festival, which I would like to do with my Skyline GTR MNP from 2000. But that wasn't possible, unfortunately. But there are more weird things.. For example, Supercar Challenge, you can't enter with a Cadillac Cien, but you have a Cien as opponent there.

Dunno about the difficulty decreasing with re-entering though. And A-spec poinst actually say nothing. I've had very easy 200 pts races, and very difficult 10 pts races.:) So, that you went from 68 to 44 pts actually says nothing about the difficulty being easier, it could even be tougher with those 44 pts.:)

FFX was an amazing game...

The A-spec points are based on your car and the competition. Upgrades that do not affect power and/or power-to-weight ratio will have no effect on a spec points. The points changed because the opponent line up changed.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply :)

Finaly fantasy X and X2 rocked.

Did anybody bother buying a JGTC car to run the Japanese GT championship or just used whatever race car they had?

you need to use a JGTC car to run it. with at least a turbo upgrade. i get blown away so much :(

you are in correct there jimmihemmy. there are other factors involved. to prove this, i entered the DTM cup with my audi a4 touring car, but not before purchasing two sets of tyres - racing qualify, and racing hard. following you explaination, a-spec point would only be awarded depending on power or power to weight ratio. i know this isnt true. to prove my theories correct, i devised this test.
i skipped the first race at the opera (i fluffed up the experiment) and raced the second race with racing qualify tyres. that was a 7 point race. then i raced the next race at the high speed ring with racing hard tyres, and that was a 13 point race. then to confirm that it was infact the tyres that were causing the difference (and not the track) i raced the next race at the nurburgring that was also a 13 point race, with racing hard tyres. and just to be double sure that the two 13's were not coincidences, i raced the following race at fuji 205 gt, again with racing hard tyres and that was a 13pt race too.
i think that you will find that whilst not inconclusive, my experiment does prove that many factors are taken into consideration other than bhp or the power-to-weight ratio when determining a-spec points.

For a full rundown on a-spec points have a look here: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=56502&page=9&pp=20

Things that affect a-spec points: Tyres (but only those on the front); wings; all hp and weight mods (including ballast); opposition.

Things that don't: suspension and drivetrain, diffs, trannys, driving aids, brakes, NOS!

And maybe some other things I forgot to mention.

I posted the thing about the celica in the general bugs thread, but I'm sure it is in there with about fifty billion other things.

I think it is. I think you generally get the toughest lineup the game will set up when you enter an event for the first time, but it depends on the car.

I did a test of all the Le Mans endurance racers, and there's no question that when I entered each car in the 24-hour Sarthe II enduro for the first time, I always got the toughest lineup of competitors. If I exited and re-entered, the quality of the lineup went down.

However, this was consistently true for the best of these cars (the Audi R8, for example), but not the weaker ones (the BMW McLaren F1 GTR, for example). With the weaker cars, I had to re-enter over and over again to get the best lineup of competitors possible.

So your theory seems to be applicable to some cars, but not all.

long story short, the game cheats

it puts cars into races that it will not let you use.

it sucks but the game is sooo damn good I can forgive it a few niggles.

the a-spec points shouldn't really go up if you add more power, lighting the car etc, although saying that if the oppenents get better then it might (the whole a-spec thing is a bit strange, as many people have said. not that its stopping me trying for 200 for each race.

You're welcome.;)

I did the JGTC with my Impreza Touring Car. With a JGTC car that championship is way too easy.

If you like those games, come and visit my site about FF (I'm doing it with a friend of mine, and it's still under construction, but the forums are online and open:)). Just click on the link in my sig or send me a PM.;)

Not much of a shock: PD traditionally puts cars that originated in the 1980s (say, a lesser version of the essentially same car) but also a produced in the 1990s in to the Eighties Categories.

It seems PD tried this before; check my notes on the 80's Sports Car Cup in Gran Turismo 2:

There's the '90 Infini III, Supra Twin Turbo '91, and...a Celica GT-Four '91!

Still, this isn't bad as the dogmatic restrictions and AI choices in the Supercar Festival!

yep and it was in a few races in gt3 as well but who cares! you can still beat the pants off of the newer cars with an older one which feels great! :sly:

Sadly occurences like this are common, the computer bends the rules it sets and many of the races it can be found using cars that you cannot. This is a prime example of badly engineered gameplay. Thankfully Forza is nearly out for the XBox to save me from further frustration at the rule bending that takes place in GT4, not to mention the extremely stupid 5 second penalty when the computer car runs YOU into the wall on the rally stages.

GT4 has nearly had its day for me... Onwards and upwards, if the reviews of Forza are anything to go by, its all over for my PS2 for the next few months!

GT4 is wonderful in many respects, and dire in others.

super cirrus
what r you smoking...

Don't appreciate RPG's I guess.

Did some light weight or compact races today with a stage 2 turbo upgrade on a ginette 4. I used the turbo to compete with the AC car that smoked my other attempts at the race but it wasnt there after bringing in the ginette. I ended up letting the Bspec guy take it for a ride in some race, i cnat remeber whch one, but it was on Laguna Seca. Well, at the corkscrew....ended up with a flying Ginette!

You can actually alter the opponent lineup after entering the event (but not starting the race). I discovered this quite by accident, after entering an event I went to the settings screen and messed around with my installed parts a bit (obviously changing the final spec of my car). When I returned to the race menu, the lineup was completely different. So if you're looking to shuffle the grid a little, maybe try this approach rather than exiting the event every time (which affects your W/L doesn't it?).

I love FF7 and FF tactics. Still play them. FFX just didn't appeal to me and X-2 was way too girly...But that's just my opinion. FFX is the 2nd highest selling I think...

i tried to get in a championship(idont remember exactly wi)for unmodified cars with cadilac cien but had exaust then i tried with full modified gt40 05'............... i won the championship...........

You're right. I should been clearer about that. When I mentioned upgrades I did not consider tires, I guess I forgot about those.

But, in a physics standpoint, the tires actually do affect power/power-to-weight ratios. The tire compound controls how much power and grip (based on the power and weight of the car as well as drivetrain) actually reaches the ground.

I also noticed in one of the European races you have to be French or German and i was against 3 Japanese cars!

unmodified means not even exhaust i tried with other cars like cadilac cien without upgrades like i won it and the indicate unmodified cars only was red....its crazy but true
