'97 R390 GT1 (black) vs. '98 R390 GT1 (blue) and other Le Mans racers in GT2

Why do the two R390s seem very different? I know at the actual Le Mans race in 1998 all three R390s finished while the grid was more varied with the '97 race (the #23 featured in game finished 12th overall and #21 and #22 never finished), but in-game, I seem to have an easier time with the '98 model - it seems a bit faster and more grippy in the corners.

Also, it seems to me that the GT-Ones are understeer happy.
 
Funny you like the '98 road car more... it's a lot heavier and longer than the '97, so at the same hp, the '97 should be faster. Though, in my experience more weight = more grip so the '98 may feel easier to handle.
 
I always preferred the handling of the '97 more, as well as the aesthetic. But I find that regardless of which one you choose torque is lacking compared to other cars in its class, so I usually drove other cars.
