Scoop!! Facelifted 997

Some of you frequent worldcar fans visiters have probably had a look of pictures of a supossed 997 facelefted mule. The 997 has been around since July 2004 and now has 3 years on its neck. Although it hasn't aged at all it is time for a facelift. Judging by the pictures below the car is wearing almost no camo which indicated that it to be presented soon, Paris show anyone?

The new changes includes LED dim lights and LED rear lights. Additionally the rear lighty have been slightly changed in design and it seem like Porsche is going to bring back the red strip on the rear for the C4(four wheel drive) models. Additionally the car has a new slight more aggressive bumper.

Loving the re-introduction of the red strip on the rear of the 4 wheel drive models:tup:

I think they changed the rear tailights from the non-turbo 911 back to the taillight design from the 996, and added the strip. This applies only for the last one, however. I am unsure as to what model the other picures are.

I do like seeing the return of the great red stripe. It ties designs together, and overall makes the back-end of the car look more "complete" as most Porsches used to.

I think just compounded the lazy Porsche designers a million times in my head.

Sure a facelift doesn't need to be comprehensive, but reverting to old rear light and an old 'tradition'. Jeez.

This isn't a facelift; it's not even a minor restyling. It's just a minor model year change. Nothing to make threads about...

To end the confusion, that last picture he posted was clearly just a 996 C4 used for reference purposes only, they're not going back to that design.

BTW, I see absolutely no need for this update at all, the 997 still looks very fresh, not to mention beautiful. Besides, those new taillights look a little too small, but maybe that's just an illusion.

Edit: Nevermind, it appears there's a small strip of tape over the bottom section of taillight, making it look smaller than it really is.

Like Clarkson would say:

"The worlds most lazy designer does it again"

Damn that car looks good. I'm not even sure anything looks better...ever. but I'm weird.
I don't give a crap if it's a makeover or not, the top pics are worth an entire thread.

While I agree that it's nothing amazing, whether it deserves a thread is argueable. I don't think the Barabus TKR deserves a thread, being the overated piece of garbage that it is (270 MPH? There are half inch gaps in the body panels!), but it has one. This is undoubtably more "important" information than that.

if thy almighty says so.

Look dude I'm not trying to get on you - but you've got to agree with me here. This was a facelift:

The Porsche thing is just a minor model year change. Really!!

Indeed it is - I wanted to make a thread about B9 Tribeca eating a group of schoolchildren but the moderators said I couldn't unless I had proof, so I showed them an article and they said a screenshot of me typing "B9 Tribeca Eats Sixth-Graders on Trip to Ugly Museum" in Wordpad doesn't count as proof.

I can post you tons of different pics from german manufacturer facelifts, and the differences are all very minimal, barring the A4.

Nice, but hardly drastic, and hardly worth a new thread.

Edit: Removed some stuff...

I was under the impression they quickly resculpted it following spontaneous vomiting?!

^^That wasn't a facelift, that was an entirely new generation.
What, the Explorer or the 911? I wouldn't doubt if this is another 911 generation. Clarkson is right--I don't get how someone could stick with a tradition that long so they must be lazy as hell. All I knows is that I likes 911s.

By the way, didn't anyone notice that the front grilles are different? Or that the rear bumper is slightly flatter and more square? The headlight inards on the #4 pic--the blueish car--are different and more complex. Hey, look at the funny lip on the bottom edge of the new front bumper in that same picture!

...Minor changes = facelift...

Keef, I was refering to the Hyundai Tiburon pictures ultrabeat posted. For some reason he removed them after I posted that though, leading to the confusion.

I guarantee you they're more than this...

The A4 was a redesign.

Yeah I removed them because the information I posted turned out to be false.

Minor changes is like a new exterior color, or a previously optional feature standard or (in GM's case) a previously standard feature optional. Or a red stripe which may or may not be a third brake light.

And by the way, the GTO you posted wasn't facelifted. It added some 'aerodynamic improvements' which appear to be, in total, two hood scoops and a rear bumper. Yes - a minor change. A facelift involves a restyling of the vehicle itself.

IMO a facelift can be almost a complete re-design based on the same basic platform, or something as minor as a set of re-profiled bumpers. Its only the US where you get '2006 model year' changes as a sales gimick. I don't think they do it this way anywhere else in the world.

To you guys on that side of the pond, the two GTO's at the top of the page might be the difference between a '04 & '05 GTO. In Europe this would be a facelifted model.

This explains it:tup:

When you guys were talking about model year changes I was like WTF is that.

The A4 was a redesign.

Aka a facelift, because underneath the skin its pretty much the same to the B6. They just gave it the company face.
