A Race with a difference – The Five hares and the tortoise.

The tortoise stood waiting at the finishing line smirking gleefully. “ I told you I would win” he said to Merc as the hare panted and puffed across the line. “ Just you wait to next time and I’ll bring my friends along too !” With that he limped away to lick his wounds.
The Present Day
That day six months ago had proved that slow is beautiful and strategy is key. Now at a place in Germany called “ The Boars Head “ the challenge that had been set . The time of reckoning had arrived.
Tortoise looked nervously as the combatants rolled towards the start line. Ahead of them, 24 hours of racing torture.
There was Merc, supposedly the fastest in the field, Silvia from Japan looking not very pretty at all, Scooby Doo, also from Japan looking resplendent in her red and black livery, Spooney dressed in blue and yellow and finally Super Tommy dressed to kill in a shiny bright red coat.
I hour earlier, tortoise, whose racing name was A. Muse, was sitting in his rest area with his mentor, N. “ Before you go out today there are some things I want you to know . I am going to dress you in the best Gold and black coat, you will look splendid. I have changed parts of you to give you a fighting chance. You will have new shoes , new running juice and should you need it, special speed juice. Use it sparingly as it doesn’t last for ever!”
A.Muse looked pleased. N continued. “ Most of all, I want you to know that the green and yellow stuff must be avoided at all costs except for where it can be used to your advantage” He showed Muse a map with rings circled around the shortcuts. N gave Muse his final words of advice.
“ This race will be tough. You are faced with a 200 point penalty and 180 kg of bricks. This will slow you down. You are also starting last on the grid. Take my advice, use what I have given you to your advantage. Finally, wipe that smile from Merc’s face.”
So began the longest race that tortoise had attempted. Would Merc make the same mistake as last time? The time when he was so far ahead, he stopped to admire the view! Only to be caught and passed by A.Muse. Tortoise mused on this point as he roared past the start line, chuckling to himself.
