I can't shave when not in the shower because I find it irritates my skin too much and it's quite painful at times. I feel that in the shower my skin is more relaxed probably because of the constant hot water. I use shaving foam, don't like them gels very much. Also, afterwards I apply a handcream as we call it first (lotion?) I find it calms down my skin way better than any aftershave, and it also works brilliantly against the skin drying out after a shave. Then as last, probably 15 minutes after it's aftershave time and I'm running around with a baby-skin-face all day long 👍

the best trick i find is too have youre face warmed up before, put a warm towel for a few minutes or get in the shower and wash yourself first , letting water soften up youre face, so leaving shaving for last (just before washing youre hair)
not only itds easyier too shave ,but i find that it shaves closer/last longer

btw, i use a fusion rasor for the last 2 years , ive tried the schikk quattro , that went into the trash before i was done shaving

I only shave down to bare skin if my wife makes me. ;)

I usually do regular maintenance with one of these:

Leaves me with "perma-scruff" kind of look, but no skin irritation. :)

I currently use the Schick Quattro, but not for much longer. It just doesn't seem as good as the Gillette Fusion that I used to have. I'm surprised that i'm still bothering to use the Quattro, so i'll either go back to using Fusion or perhaps see what else I can find.

and you're good to go. If you're waiting every three days to shave and it's 1/4" long, going in with a blade will clog, as you are finding out. Taking out the bulk with the razor will do wonders. And sine you said you already have an electric razor, chances are it has a trimmer already. Give it a shot and then try the blade.

Philishave + Gillett Mach 3 when not shaving after a shower. Otherwise just 'the best a man can get*" does the trick.

The hot water/ shower/ face wash tip is the best one. It really softens up the hair.

*excl Tiger.

just slam the razor backwards off of the inside/edge of the sink while running water over it, it'll all get rinsed out of there in no time with a little bit of extra force.

surprised nobody suggested that yet honestly. using a brush seems like a total waste of time. even when i've got a serious beard a little bit of water + force will unclog it every time.

Yeah to add to that(since I was wondering who was going to bring that up) I shave in the shower and tap the blade part down and rinse a bit. works every-time and I even make the disposables last for a month and a half! :)

As for me personally, I use a Schick Hydro razor, and it works wonders for me. I just use the method as described by Max and it's fine. Although I imagine anyone with serious facial hair would have trouble with the razor I use. I'm 16 and I have seriously unmanly facial hair. I only need to shave about once a week, but I do trim the dirt stache and below my lower lip every couple days.

When I shave, I only bleed a little bit in the mustache area. Though I the splash water(I always use cold water), shave with grain, and then shave against the grain. That's I achieve baby smooth skin. It works every time for me. Should also note I only shave twice a week. As far as making the blade last, I can make one last for 3-4 months.

Thanks for all the pointers, so far I have gleaned:

Trim off excess hair with electric trimmer/shaver

Shave in the shower using a good quality foam/gel (just water would kill my skin)

Shave with the grain, regularly flushing and tapping the razor head clear of hair (the original problem! damn quattro's...) then against the grain.

Use a good quality Balm/cream afterwards (I use Nivea Sensitive post-shave balm, its the cats whiskers!)

I have brought the King of Shaves Azur alloy sensitive razor- http://www.shave.com/azor/

Looks like it will flush out easily and it gets good reviews, plus it has an awesome metal handle and is alot cheaper than other Razors (less than £7 in tesco), plus new blades are alot cheaper too!
Im hopeful this razor will do alot better than the stupid quattro

I use Mach 3. Three's perfect, four's too many I feel. My razor never clog, but I think I rinse it every couple of strokes.

Get yourself a double edge razor.

I shave once a week and the thing glides through no trouble whatsoever, first pass with the grain gets rid of most of the hair, and a second against the grain and its baby bottom smooth.

I have sensitive skin also, and I get no ingrown hairs or shaving rash using a double edge razor.

The razor costs a little more, but once you've made that outlay, the blades are ridiculously cheap.

I have a merkur 34c - £29.99

30 blades - £6.19

Each blade will last a good 6 shaves no problem.

Thats 180 shaves for £6.19.

Try it and you'll never look back.

Ok, I just shaved.....I'm pleased to say it was the best shave I ever had!

The KOS Azur razor is also the best I have used, its smooth, sharp and very, very easy to de-clog.

I also think the Gillette shave gel is excellent

So, in conclusion...if you struggle with clogging razors use the KOS lol
