Mr. and Mrs. Pako desperately need your help. We are painting our house and are a little overwhelmed at picking out colors. Your task, if you choose to do so, is to find a color combination that is easy to maintain, pleasant to look at, and something that will go with the Ranch style of home.

A high res image of the house can be found here:

I know this is short notice, but the painter is coming back for his paint strips soon.

Let the house painting begin!

I'll try it out. But do you want us to pick a roof color, and are you willing to paint that basketball backboard?

I'll give it a crack. A word of warning though. This will be done on MSPaint so the pic won't look very good. Hopefully you'll be able to see what I did with out going :yuk:

Not even sure if the basket ball hoop will remain. With the Dishes there on the house, I would hate for a B-Ball to take out one of the dishes...

Roof color will remain the same for now, not enough dough in the budget for the roof. So just the main siding, and the trim. A total of two colors, unless you really have a nice three color scheme...

:)

I'll start it off with some prelim ideas....

Pako, I would say the best one so far is the reddish one, only the trellis (is that what it is) near the bay window should be that dark red-brown trim color also. The white one and the last (lighter) one are too light, I'm not sure which region of the country you live in, but here in New England that color would need powerwashing every year to keep the mold/mildew off and stay nice looking.

My (parents) house is California paints Minuteman Blue, which I can enthusiastically say is a terrible color (I'll see if I can get a swatch type of thing off of their website so you know the color). Fades within a year or so. Vinyl siding is going up this year in a very neutral shade of gray.

I dont know when you plan to paint, but I'll do this this weekend when I have more time. I'm thinking a bluish dove grey with white trim.

Edit: this is newport blue, but its pretty close to my house. For the love of god, dont go this dark. Its h*ll to maintain.

Edit numero dos: Whoops, I forgot about the location thing to the left. Well, I dont know how damp Montana is (guessing not really damp at all) so I dont know if mildew will be a problem (prolly not).

I'd start off by chopping down that hideous tree in your back yard. ;)

Are you just going to paint the house or do you have other plans as well?

Mildew really isn't a problem. Hot and dry in the summer, cold and frozen in the winter.

LOL, funny you should mention the tree in the back! That was a monster willow tree. It looked great, but the root system was wrecking my plumbing in the back, so I had the power company top it off. I have to cut the rest of it down this summer. It's an eye sore, I know...

We're having a professional paint it..., we just need to pick out the base and the trim colors so he can start the project. I've looked at the house so many times, it's hard to have a subjective opinion of different colors. That's why I was hoping for some third party opinions... :)
