I was writing a message in these forums while GT5 was loading and when I looked up, the pre race screen was showing the track with all the cars racing on it from a micro machines style camera!

It looked so cool, anyone else seen it? They should add this view to the game it was so cool lol

Yes, it's pretty cool. It's the one with a white background right?

If it's the one with the white backround that is epic.

Yeah, I spotted that, and was curious about it, because it is so unlike any of the other cut scenes in GT5. 👍

It's called Tilt-shift. It's a filming technique and you'll need a special lens to do so.

Nice to know about tilt-shift in GT5, it's really cool. 👍

You can "tilt-shift" anything after the fact with filters/macros/plugins these days.

It is funny how those of us who have been pin-hole photographing their model trains, cars, planes and military dioramas for the last 40 years where laughed at from afar for their fascinaiton with "toys and miniatures", yet now titl-shift is all the cool rage and "mainn stream".

FFS man, its been overdone as a "special effect" recently dontcha think?

No, not that one! I've seen the white one, all futuristic, that is cool.

But this was proper ingame unedited visuals, it was on the screen that shows the track with cars racing on it, and you can select start race, settings, exit event etc along the bottom and the top 3/4 of the screen are the cars driving round the track.

It was on the Tsukuba Circuit, and all the drivers in the race were driving around the track as they do waiting for you to stat the race. The camera was right up in the air looking down, and you could see loads of the track with all the little cars driving around, it was just like Micro Machines!

I have never seen it before, and I saw it and just thought WOW! If they can do that camera angle there they must be able to put that into the game, seriously it was so cool.

OK, if you select the 5lap Tsukuba race, within the Amateur Clubman event then leave it on the pre-race screen the view will come on.

Here is a video of it I just uploaded via my iPhone, so quality isn't the best

Here's another neat little thing to check out during pre-race camera panning:

At Fuji (doesn't matter which) after the game loads, leave the camera to keep panning. Don't start the race.
You'll notice that the rest of the cars will start their demo lap. But YOUR car will still be stuck on the grid.
You can do everything you can in a normal race besides accel/brake (since those count as accept/decline).
But from here you can honk, flash your lights, steer... or just let your car slowly roll down the hill lol.

This actually works for any track that show the grid during the pre-race demo.

I find it a bit strange that this miniature effect is often called tilt-shift - although a lot of these photos are taken with a tilt and shift lenses they don't actually employ any shift - it's more selective focus. True tilt-shift is demonstrated by high building photography where the entire building is in focus and distortion is controlled by using a tilt and shift lens.

That is a cool view. It's trying to be a blimp or helicopter view and it works.

yeah, that one is very odd, but extremely interesting. I cannot take my eyes off it when it comes on the screensaver.
