Hello all,
I must say, I never expected to get as addicted as I have to Forza 3. My brother bought a 360 Core back in 2006, it got the no video error shortly after and sat around unused until last month. I did the RROD X Clamp fix and bought Forza 3, just to have a fresh racing game until GT5 comes out, but I haven't been able to put this down!
Anyway, I finally got round to plugging the 360 into our router today as I didn't want to spend much money on this system as I only use it for Forza, set up a Live account and downloaded the free DLC and did a bit of shopping and bidding. However, where the 360 normally lives there's no wired connection and I doubt I'm going to buy the wireless adaptor unless I can get one dirt cheap.
My main question is, after this one month free Xbox Live trial expires, what functionality can I expect from the online portions of the game? I'm not bothered about racing, all (two) of my friends have PS3's so I have no one to race with, but I quite like the Storefront and Auction sections, will I still be able to access them?
Also, if I do all the races outside of Season play by using the grid view, will I still be able to complete the 6 (or is it 5?) seasons by doing races again? I'm assuming I can, otherwise I'd be doing Season mode all the time, but I like that it offers the flexibility to either do all the races of a given tournament in a row or pick and choose what you want to do.
All in all, as a definite GT fan, I can honestly say I didn't expect to get so hooked on Forza 3, the stuff you can do with your cars is just incredible. Also the limited number of cars compared to GT games is mitigated by the fact that they don't have loads of useless cars, though they are missing some I would have liked to tune to the eyeballs, the AW11 MR2 being one. At the end of the day, though, I don't think I'll stick with it when GT5 comes out, though I'm sure that's to be expected as it'll be the new thing to play, just as how people migrate to the latest Call of Duty every year.
This is definitely a great game, though, and GT5 would do well to learn from it; the in-race telemetry is particularly nice. Just wish it wouldn't shove the fact that there are DLC packs I don't have in my face...
