SS2

I was going to go play GT3 downstairs on our 45" TV. When I got down there my family was watching a movie. Me being me I already unhooked everything. So I planted the PS2 right in front of my fan with the window open with the PS2's fan facing the big fan. So I was hot and before I turned on the fan. Then I turned on the PS2(Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow was in it). When it got to the loading screen for a game save it took less then a second. Then I had a saving option said yes, took less then a second to load. I played and turned off both. Yesterday I turned it on didn't turn on the big fan but played on the PS2. The loading for a gamesave took 4-5 seconds, as did the saving...

Do you think the fan had anything to do with it?

I doubt a bigger fan would make it faster. ps2s been out for such a long time if it were true there would be huge aftermarket fans for cooling and people would be putting their ps2s in the freezer.

The big fan was blowing cool air into the ps2 from outside. You do know that the fan on the ps2 sucks air right? Well think of the big fan pushing air into the little PS2 fan like forced cool air induction!:dopey:

Feels like it sucks it in. But in any case the big fan is stil technically cooling the PS2. Because it's forcing cold air into the PS2 through the fan vent. It was a cold and windy morning today.

your forgetting that there are vents all around the ps2's case, so if the air wasn't going in through the fan, it could very well be going through the vents instead.

the colder you can run a cpu the better.

If you look around the case you'll see small vent slots with screens underneath. It's all in black so it's kind of hard to see.

Oh yeah! Now I remember the front vents suck in air to cool the CPU. I should reverse the position of my PS2!:dopey:

yes, that way your blowing air into the ps2 and the inboard fan is blowing it out the back. The system was designed to do this, with a fan on the outside your helping the air circulate.

Are you sure you saw that much performance gain though? I'm going to have to try this.

I swear. I had it on saved a level and it took I swear a second or less.
Next day I had it save a level and it took at least 4 seconds. no joke. The PS2 felt cooler...

Well, maybe you should try it a few times. With a fan on and off. You can't make any conclusions if it worked only once. But, anyway, the whole thing makes no sense.

Regardless, the cooler the cpu and hardware, the better the system is going to run. Have you ever felt your PS2 after using for a few hours, it's warm to the touch. That means it's getting so hot that it is now dispersing the heat through the case.

Why don't you (SS2) try putting your fan on after the PS2 is hot and see if there is any evident performance gain, it's worth trying.

I think loading is faster then saving so I think I might be just seeing things. But I still like thinking that i'm cooling my PS2.:)

For ****'s sake...

No, a fan (or a bigger one) does not magically make your PS2 'faster'.

i put my ps2 in the freezer 💡 and iced it down then played gt3 and i drove 5 sec. faster a lap. i think its because i iced down my intake and the data was processed at a cooler rate!
