A few questions from someone starting out with a 360 and Forza 4

Hi Guys hope you can help, I'm about to get a 4GB Xbox kinda for free, purely for Forza 4 to start with. Basically I have a PS3 and a ton of games, have played GT5 to death but am a total car nerd and loved Forza 1 on my old Xbox so this was kinda inevitable

As i'm new to the 360 and Forza 4, I have a few questions, I guess mostly technical-ish, hoping you guys can help with:

1, Realistically, will a 4GB console run Forza 4 if I only play this one game (at least for now)? And will there be room for all of the DLC, as I plan to buy at least 95% of what's been released so far? Does the game run off the disc only, or is some of the content installed, or is this optional?

2, Are MS still really anal about third party replacement hard drives, as I recently swapped out my PS3 hard drive replacing the 120GB with a 500GB, but now hope to install the 120 in the XBox. Googled and saw all kinds of stories about getting locked out of Xbox live and various content if third party peripherals are "detected", but most of the threads seemed a few years old and it seemed like rumour in most cases. Surely I can swap the 4GB for my unused 120GB just fine?

Obviously if there are no issues here, point 1 is kinda negated, though I would kinda like to play Forza 4 out of the box before I mess around upgrading

3, Is there still some sort of free Xbox live membership which will allow me to buy the DLC? I don't want to pay a subscription just yet.

4, Are pretty much all of the DLC cars now available to everyone? From what I can gather, the answer is "yes" but only recently did the deluxe pack including the Noble M600 etc. become available to all?

Thanks, I appreciate a lot of questions, but hoping some good samaritans out there can address most if not all of them rather than trawling through the web (this proved a little unsatisfactory with the replacement drive query alone)

Oh and getting a bigger drive from the get-go is sadly not an option, like I said, getting the XBox effectively for free so don't have the option.

1. 4GB's won't do anything for you. You'll need a bigger HDD. I think with disc 2 installed, it was about 10GB's with all the DLC. Installing the game put it around 16GB's.

2. I can't answer this question. I think you have to use a XBOX HDD. It's not as HDD swap friendly as the PS3 is. ( My PS3 has a 500GB HDD )

3. Registering to XBOX LIVE Silver should, yes. I just bought the 3 month XBL to hold me over.

4. Yes. All of them from the Seasonal Pass, the VIP, etc.

The install footprint is 10GB? Wow OK. So effectively the game won't run on a console MS still sell? That seems bizarre to me.

Its for people who want to spend the least amount of money to play a game. Most of the time people dont read up on it. I remember the old Arcade bundle didnt even have HDMI slots, i think. Think the point of that system was not to be for full blown games but more of the xbox arcade games and whatnot.

Pretty much an easy solution for parents to shut up their kids.

You can still play the game off of a disc from what I understand without installing it to the XBOX itself.

You can also use a 16GB flash drive for the time being as extra storage until you save enough for a MS HDD.

I'm somewhat interested in this too as I just got a 360 and FM4. Kind of tired of the blandness of Gran Turismo.

The game is playable with just the 4gb but you will not be able to install all of the content on disc 2. And if you want to jump online to download DLC or play, you will not have enough space. Like hogger stated, pick up a 16gb flash drive and it will get you by for now. Just a warning as you are new/semi-new to xbox, Microsoft is not as 'accessible' as Sony when it comes to third party additions, and they will ban you if caught, be safe.

The content on disk 2 I believe is 2.8GB so it should fit.

Thanks for the replies guys, i'm still not entirely clear on what the risks are using a third party hard drive, but I might just get a used/reconditioned official one on eBay.

The trouble I see in that is you don't know what's beem installed to them or if they have problems.

Also Microsoft has this incredible sense when these things are being used and can ban a console if found, if you never play online then you can technically do whatever you want. Its when you connect the console to the internet when MS's spidey sense gets tingly.

No kidding on that one. Their spidey sense goes off, suddenly you have a flagged console registration.
