To the expert tuners who have made it possible for me to enjoy 750PP racing...

1) I'm driving the tuned Vette in the 750PP Suzuka event and struggle most of all with the hairpin. I'm currently using the RVT tune with my own gearing. The car doesn't tend to suffer much understeer at higher speeds because of my max aero setting, but for this corner it seems to have to drop to 38mph for the hairpin and there are also issues at Degner 2. My question is, if I increase the max steering angle from 40 degrees...will it help solve a little of the understeer here? No effect? Subsequent problems elsewhere?

2) Still with the above problem, I also have a lot of issues exiting the corner. To avoid mass power oversteer I take the corner in seriously low revs in 3rd gear, and when the car is reasonably straight I shift back down to 2nd. Is it better just to shift to 2nd and use throttle to control the oversteer to exit the corner instead of flooring it in 3rd with low revs then downshifting?

3) For the gears, I'm using 4-speed and basically have moved the bars all the way to the left to negate the need for fifth gear. This is called "lengthening" the gears right? If I then adjust the final gear to lengthen 4th just a bit more, and then re-adjust 1st 2nd and 3rd back to their original top speeds (to what they were before messing with the final)...is that advisable?

I was always under the impression that lengthening a gear gives it a higher top end but the decreased acceleration negates that effect..

4) Why are dogs' noses wet?

Many many kind thanks in advance for any advice or guidance.

All the best

When I read your problems under 1 and 2, I get the idea you're driving with an unbalanced setup. I watched your hotlap and I can say you're driving smoother than the average driver. So the problem isn't situated in that part.

Increasing the ride height, softening the front springs and a bit more rear camber might bring some more balance to the car and help improve the handling in the parts you mentioned.

Also, if you lower the final ratio, the acceleration doesn't always suffer under the higher top speed. Cars with a broad powerband like the Corvette accelerate well from halfway the rev range. So in the end you might lose less under acceleration than you win on the straights. Readjusting the individual gears isn't necessary then, unless you feel uncomftable with them after the adjustment.

I'd soften the front dampers rather than springs if the problem is mostly occuring while shifting weight from one side to the other (e.g. corner entry or exit). If it's more of a general problem: soften the front springs.

My springs are currently 7/4 and dampers are 5/7.

Many many thanks for the advice guys, as soon as my internet is up and running at home again I will have an opportunity to test this out.

Thank you again

Hugo, I changed the gearing a little bit on the Final from 3.620 to 3.800 and it seems to have made a little difference as the car is more competitive in the online races.

NLX, I softened the front damper from 5/7 to 3/7 and that has also made a noticeable improvement!

I also removed about 2 points of aero and added to BHP.

Even if it doesn't yield better free run times, the extra oomph it seems to have given the race setup has been well worth it.

Thank you both very much, all the best

Great! Softening the front inbound dampers is also what I meant since you have no spring rate in GT5P... You can also lower the front rebound, because now the front is overdamped, what results in some understeer in high-speed corners.

Did you already have my Corvette setup, Maz? If not I can pm you mine tomorrow :)

You are absolutely 100% right, I have now found that I can't take 130R at 151mph, it's like 147mph and even that is hairy...when you say lower the front rebound, you mean a smaller value for front springs?

I would love to see that setup Hugo, I look forward to your PM!

Damn I love this forum...
