I had some spare time so I wrote down my dream for a GT game.

A few suggestions to make Gran Turismo the greatest game ever

1. You don’t need 1000 cars, especially if most are variants. I’m not saying you only need the R35 GT-R, but you don’t need to have the R34 V-spec. V-spec2, V-spec Nur, M Spec, and standard R34. One or 2 is enough for each of the R34, R33, and R32. All the other cars should get the same treatment in terms of variation
2. All cars must be somewhat equal: that doesn’t mean all have to be premiums, but the decision for only 220 cars out of the thousand to have in-car views almost completely ruins the gameplay since the in-car view is very well done and the cars that don’t have it feel empty. The graphical differences aren’t noticeable except in photomode, so a slightly less detailed interior could have created an almost indifferent response to the differences between standard and premium
3. Tuning and car modification still runs on a primitive, outdated mentality, and needs a complete overhaul
a. Separate the Tire shop from the tuning shop: this will do 2 things, first: it will help the game tell the difference between “modified” and “unmodified” (more on that later). And second, it might give the opportunity for Pirelli, Michelin, Falken, Yokohama, and others to be represented better in the game. I’d rather buy Pirelli P-zero than ‘Sports Medium’
b. Racing modification should be a multi-step process and involve all cars. Meaning an aerodynamic package must be applicable in some degree to all cars in some degree permitting their change in appearance, then there’s the performance mods then, finally a number plate must be added “according to the official rules of the Gran Turismo Racing Federation” this will serve to help players feel the satisfaction of making their own racecars and give the GT universe a more fleshed out feel
c. There must be a method to add liveries and decals to the cars. I’m not talking about a system as brilliant as Forza (even though everyone would love to have that) but would it be too hard to add racing stripes, two tones and some simple graphics. You don’t need to apply this to all cars (but at least the majority)
d. A blue “T” and a red “R”: or something similar. If your car came from the showroom straight to the track, or maybe you changed the tires, the name is displayed normal. If you’ve done ANYTHING in the tuner shop, a blue “T” is placed before the name. If it’s a racecar (premade like Super GT or if you made it yourself by adding a number plate) it gets a red “R”. Only cars with “R” in front of their name get to have race tires
e. Interior mods (at least the steering wheel, but the more comprehensive the better)
f. Engine Swaps, and not just for the engines of different cars. Add engines from Mine’s, Spoon, HKS, and other tuners
g. Drivetrain swaps: especially useful if you’d like to make a drifter out of an AWD or FWD car, or if you want to make a rally car
4. Career should involve multiple race types like Time Attack, Drift and Drag Racing
5. Regulations for career races: using the above mentioned “T” and “R” markers, along with Power/weight ratio, Drivetrain, Engine type, weight, power output and car dimensions all in conjunction to limit entrants, giving players the ability to be creative when entering a car for a series (A clipboard or similar option might be added to the game’s interface to display the rules the player would like to limit himself/herself to)
6. A few non racing circuit “driving environments”; for instance a Touge with 3 layouts, an abandoned randomized airfield and an alpine mountain road with 3 or 4 layouts would make for some truly unique driving experiences and a change of pace
7. Less variations of Japanese cars and more variety in American and European cars
8. Rally needs to be completely redone
a. No invisible walls: they’re a bad idea that has no place in any game made after 1996
b. The Co driver needs to be reprogrammed to recognize crests, dips, jumps and “caution”
c. Objects surrounding the track need to be destructible or removed completely
d. Besides the “WRC” type rally, SUV based events need also be added (on tarmac, gravel, with even some of them on circuits) since the Range Stormer, FX45, and Toyota RSC are useless at this point
9. A YouTube-like service hosted by Polyphony Digital for us to share our online and offline replays
10. Bring back the classic GT tracks like Midfield and Seattle PLEEEAASSEE!!
11. Keiichi Tsuchiya. He’s ten times more talented than Jeff Gordon!!! LOL

Feel free to comment. Tell me what you think of my ideas and tell me yours
👍

1. Disagree. There are loads of variations of a Skyline GT-R, but not as many variations of, say, an E92 M3. Also I doubt making the variations takes very long at all.

2. Disagree, my enjoyment of the game has not suffered one bit from the Premium/Standard divide, but I never use the cockpit view (so I don't notice their presence/absence) and I never use the chase cam (so I don't notice the Standards' (lack of) quality).

3. Agree. Forza 3 did tuning much better.

4. Disagree. This is GT5, not Need for Speed. However, non-career modes such as these would be great, and we already have the drifting one.

5. Agree, to an extent, but I think a reward system based on GT4's A-Spec points would be better, in that harder races earn more cash than if you make it easy on yourself.

6. Agree, I really missed Fujimi Kaido and a lot of people who play online need somewhere to go to drag race and mess around, it gets annoying when your free drift lobby gets overrun by drag racers and people doing burnouts on the track...

7. Who wouldn't agree with this? Although I wouldn't want to see anything currently in the game being removed to accomplish that. Moot point anyway, though, I suspect.

8. Agree, again, who wouldn't want that? Though invisible walls do need to be there if PD can't work out a decent penalty system...

9. Meh, wouldn't this be really boring? Kind of like watching a B-Spec race except you don't earn anything from it, so why bother?

10. If they included cars with sub-par graphics, I can't see why they excluded tracks with sub-par graphics. I would love to see every track return, regardless of what they look like.

11. Definitely. A KT drift school would be awesome. His N2 AE86 would be even better, but I guess the S.S. Ver. is close. I spent about an hour watching some videos of N2 Levins today, 10,000rpm never sounded so good...

This sort of thread has been done many times before, but I agree with most of your points. In particular, I would love to see the Touge! I love watching Best Motoring's Touge battles, it would be awesome if we could replicate that.

IMO rally in GT5 is a complete waste of time, but if was done properly (as you have mentioned) it would be much better. While I'm not keen on the whole SUV thing, there needs to be preoper point to point rally stages! And not just the boring dirt roads like in the rally challenge, but actual tight technical stages like in the WRC.

I was really looking forward to that but turns out the WRC license was such a marketing gimmick...

I would really love to see a REAL garage. For example, imagine a Photomode except with all of your cars. Preeeetty :D.
