Aaaargh, my PC is soooo messed-up!! So I decided to format everything and reinstall Win XP :nervous:

I've got my fave playlist burned on a CD and everything else I wanted to keep zipped and jazzed so here goes... ;)

Its aways nice to get a clean start..

Pfeew, It's done! And it went rather smoothly at that ;)

I just booted with the XP cd, formatted everything -new partitions -install etc. and done! Whoa, I guess I got lucky this time.

I tried to install XP too. After it was completed, all my stuff just stopped working.
Printer, scanner, mouse, webcam, sound. It all didn't work
Even with the XP patches it didn't work:cry:
After i deleted XP from my comp, it all worked again

Yep! Everything is nice and clean, well... for now :p And I've got my full 40 gigs back!

Haha, loads of crap is something I paid extra attention to when setting up my new PC. I kept all of my old files on CD so everything would have a completely fresh start. And, since I saved a lot of things that I now realise are totally useless, I plan to keep my new computer as clean as possible. :)

I always plan to do that too... :p

I try to do the same thing but it never works. You try this and that and before you know it, its cloged pipes again.

LOL, thanks for the encouraging words, guys!

I've started doing a simple partition on all my computers. I take a minimum of 6 gigs as my first partition and put the system and programs on that (usually the C:\ partition in Windows), and then everything that's left gets used for my data. I put the "My Documents" folder, and the "Desktop" folder on that partition too. I never delete anything, but I do my best to keep it very organized.

So when I need to reinstall Windows, or do some kind of upgrade, all I have to do is make sure I've got all my software CDs so I can reinstall all my programs. They do require some tweaking when I've got them installed, but I don't have to worry about my data anymore.

Bingo!

Thats what i do, my computer has 4 partions on it:

C:\ - Just winxp, nothing else, about 5 gigs
D:\ - My junk, game stuff, emulators, mods for games etc. about 10 gigs
E:\ - Music, nothing but music, about 10 gigs
F:\ - programs, games wp stuff, you name it and its a program, it goes here, 15 gigs

When i need to reinstall have i do is to reformat drives c and f, that way the i dont have to fiddle with the programs.

OT whoo f'n hoo the cable finally came back on after 4 hours!

I've made a single partition on the set-up and I figured I'd make another partition later, in win XP, but no I have one partition (c:\>) covering 10gigs. So how can I make another partition and recover the other 30 gigs?

That's pretty slick. Would this work on my 233mhz with 3.2g HDD? :smilewink

Sure it would work, although you'd have to live with 600mb partitions

Space and LoudMusic, what partition software are you guys using? Partition Magic?

Dude, I need a Dell
Yes, you do! :D I just can't say enough great things about the company...I've owned 3 of their systems and all have been great experiences. Their shipping is even outstanding - when I ordered my new system about 3 weeks ago, it arrived at my door 2 days before Dell even predicted they would ship it!
